Biographical Information
Michael J. Ward (PhD Caltech, 1988).
After holding postdoctoral research positions at Stanford and NYU (Courant),
Michael joined the University of British Columbia where he is
currently a Professor of Mathematics. He was the director of the
Institute for Applied Mathematics at UBC (2003-2008). His research
interests are in applied analysis, reaction-diffusion systems,
scientific computing, singular perturbation methods, mathematical
modeling, diffusion in perforated domains, and biophysical applications.
He has received several awards for research in mathematics,
including: Andre Aisenstadt prize (CRM, 1995); ICIAM Plenary Lecture
(Hamburg, 1995); Coxeter-James prize (CMS, 1998); Christensen
Fellowship (Oxford, 1998); Steacie Fellowship (NSERC, 1998-1999). He
is co-editor-in-chief of the European Journal of Applied
Mathematics, an editor of the Discrete and Continuous Systems Series
B, and co-managing editor of the Canadian Applied Math Quarterly.
