UK civil registration indices note that there was a marriage in Q4 of 1890 in the Barton Regis registration district between Frederick PIKE and Sarah PEARCE. According to Fred's death certificate his father was Henry Pike and his mother Sarah Jane Hawkins. Frederick worked as a painter (tradesman). The passenger list for the Elbe shows Frederick & Sarah Pike, both age 20, sailed from Antwerp to Melbourne, arriving on 17 December 1890. Family lore states that Fred had a brother named George Henry Pike who settled at Preston, Victoria, Australia in 1914 along with his wife his wife Emma Hawkins (1874-1943). George's death certificate states his father to be Samuel Pike, and his mother unknown. He was born in Monmouthshire Wales as his father was a member of the Welsh Fusiliers and was presumably stationed there. |
