Family oral history is that Thomas was originally from Manchester, England, that he was a merchant sailor who jumped ship in New York, got caught, and was then deported to Canada. As yet we do not know who Thomas' parents were or just where he was born. However, a potential candidate might be the Thomas Pike who was born at Latchford, Cheshire about 1837 to parents Thomas & Sarah PIKE. Thomas & Sarah are found in the 1841 UK census at Grappanhall, Runcorn, Cheshire, in the 1851 census at Warrington, Lancashire, and in the 1861 census at Gorton, Lancashire.
