Subject: Two new results (for Groups 20 and 4)

Hi everybody.

Here is an update regarding two new DNA test results.

Catherine (who has previously done the Family Finder test on her own DNA)
arranged for her cousin Ernest (kit 247419) to have 111 Y-DNA markers
tested so that we could compare with the other Pike and Pyke Y-DNA results
in our project. The outcome was a match on 66 out of the 67 markers that
have been tested by Scott (kit 207535). Both of their results are now
displayed in "Group 20" on our project's Results webpage. To describe
what is known of their ancestry, Catherine and Ernest trace their roots
back to a John PYKE who got married in 1877 at St. John's, Newfoundland.
His marriage record included the details that he was 25 years old, was
born at New Harbour (located in Trinity Bay, Newfoundland), and that his
parents were named George and Hannah. Scott also traces his Pike ancestry
back to New Harbour, to a Joseph PIKE who was born about 1856. A voters
list from 1894 indicates that Joseph's father was named George. There is
evidence to show that Joseph's father George and John's father George are
different men. Unfortunately some of the church records from the area
have been destroyed by fire, so the exact relationship between these two
Georges remains unknown at present, although my speculation is that they
may have been first cousins to one another. As for the origins of this
Pike line prior to New Harbour, there are some records from across the bay
at Trinity that suggest that the family came to Newfoundland from
Christchurch in Hampshire.

The other new result to mention is for an anonymous participant with kit
number 226253 and who tested 37 markers. His closest matches are with
Jerry (109431) and Al (174445) with whom he has 34 and 33 markers in
common (out of 37). Both Jerry and Al are in "Group 4" which represents a
Pike family having origins at Keyworth and Plumtree in Nottinghamshire.

One last thing to mention is that Family Tree DNA is having its annual
year-end promotion. Prices of several of their tests (including several
upgrade options) are reduced until the end of December.
