Subject: two new results

Hi everybody.

This message has news of two new Pike Y-DNA results.

The first is for an anonymous participant in our project with kit number
190144. He tested 37 markers but does not yet have any genetic matches
within our project: at 12 markers the closest Pike matches have 2
differences with 190144, at 25 markers the closest Pike matches have 7
differences, and at 37 markers the closest Pike matches have 12
differences. So 190144 represents another previously-unseen Pike lineage
for our project, bringing our tally of unrelated Pike lineages up to 50.

The other new result consists of 12 markers for Robert (kit 192861). His
Pike ancestors lived at Spaniard's Bay in Newfoundland and can be traced
back to a Robert Pike who was born about 1803 in nearby Carbonear.
Robert's markers are a perfect match with our project's "Group 2", which
so far consists only of Pikes with ancestry that can be traced back to the
vicinity of Carbonear. So we now have another piece of genetic evidence
that tells us that there is a large extended Pike family in eastern
Newfoundland. Unfortunately, records prior to the 1810s for the area are
scarce at best, so exactly how Robert's branch fits onto the overall
family tree isn't yet clear. There is hope though that wills, deeds, or
other records might eventually help to give us a clearer picture... on
that note, I have begun the task of going through the early court records
at the Newfoundland archives.

One final comment: thanks to the Guild of One-Name Studies, I've recently
received details for over 100 Pike marriages that took place in Bristol
between 1837 and 1891. If anybody needs details for one of these
marriages, then let me know.

- David.
