Subject: [PIKE-DNA] Status Report
Hi everybody.
Things have been fairly quiet with our project over the past month,
but it's still about time that I sent out another status update.
I have 3 items to mention:
1. The only new result since my last email is for Lori's father
(kit 79012), whose DNA results confirm that Lori's Pike line belongs
to the large clan that is represented by our project's "Group 1" as
shown at:
http://www.math.mun.ca/~dapike/family_history/pike/DNA/index.php?content=results.html
Something of interest in this case is that Lori's Pike ancestry goes
back to a David Pike from the parish of Ramsbury in Wiltshire.
We therefore have found yet another parish in which the Group 1 clan
has been resident. In all, we've now seen this clan in England in:
- Berkshire: Newbury
- Hampshire: Ashmansworth, Linkenholt, Whitchurch
- Wiltshire: Ramsbury, Whiteparish
This same clan also had members living in Cork, Ireland from the 1600s
onwards.
2. A number of participants in our project have periodically
emailed me/Stuart with offers to help others with their Pike
genealogical research. For instance, a number of people have access
to various subscription-fee-based genealogical services. Working behind
the scenes, in a few cases we've been able to lengthen by a few
generations the known pedigrees of some of our project members.
Anyway, with a number of people now in a position to assist others,
we were thinking that it might be good for folks with genealogical
queries (particularly those that Stu and I might not even be aware of)
to start posting some of the details of their stumbling blocks, either
to this email list, or perhaps to the more general PIKE-L list.
Sending an email to our mailing list can be done by sending email
to the address: pike-dna@rootsweb.com
All messages sent to the list are archived and can be viewed online at:
http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index/PIKE-DNA/
3. A few months ago I mentioned that our project's Sponsorship Fund
was running low. It's now down to $0. However, we are getting requests
from people who are seeking support. So I'm essentially putting out a
call for donations to help replenish the fund. Contributions can be
made (online via paypal or a credit card, or offline with a cheque or
credit card) by following the instructions at:
http://www.familytreedna.com/contribution.html
Just be sure that you specify that you want your donation to be
directed towards the Pike project. If you want to target your
donation in some particular way, then drop me an email with the details;
otherwise, we'll use it towards the three general criteria listed at the
start of the "Sponsorships" section on the bottom half of this page:
http://www.math.mun.ca/~dapike/family_history/pike/DNA/index.php?content=join.html
Donations, even if only $5, are gratefully appreciated.
Thanks,
- David.
