Subject: [PIKE-DNA] Latest Test Results
This is just a quick update to apprise folks of the latest test
results in our project.
Almost a week ago our newest member's 12-marker results came out.
Their closest match (off by only 2) in our project was with _me_
which I thought was pretty exciting :) ... especially since there
was nothing apparently in common between our pedigrees or even in
where our respective ancestors were known to be in the past several
generations.
Today the next 13 of his 25-marker results came out. He (Ronald, 34964)
and I (David, 23996) now have evidence that we are _not_ related. It turns
out that when looking at 25, rather than just 12 markers, our results
differ by 10. This distance, coupled with several of our mismatches being
on the "slow-moving" markers, pretty much rules out any chance of a
relationship. To be a bit more precise, FTDNA's Time Predictor tool
estimates the likelihood of a common ancestor at only 3% within the past
600 years.
So our project has confirmation of yet another Pike genetic line ...
we're now up to at least 7 distinct lines.
However, right now the only test results that we are waiting on are
two upgrades from 25 to 37 markers, which is to say that finding matches
for the as yet ungrouped participants will require that additional
people join the project. Although the project has been mentioned on
several message boards and genealogy websites, I'm told by other
project coordinators that word-of-mouth and other forms of
communication between personal contacts is what has generated the
most new project members (my experiences with the Pike project
support this too). So by all means do mention the project whenever
suitable opportunities present themselves.
- David.
