Subject: Project Update

Here's a quick update about the Pike DNA Project, the website
for which is at

http://www.math.mun.ca/~dapike/family_history/pike/DNA

1. A new 12-marker result came out tonight. We now have results
for descendants of *both* of the sons of John Pike who settled
   in Massachusetts in 1635.

2. A few folks have asked about mutations in the past while, so I've
added a few questions and answers near the bottom of the "Results"
page to try to help people understand mutations. Included in this
are details about interpolating values for deceased ancestors
(such as for John Pike mentioned above).

3. We're now up to a dozen participants, 3 of whom we don't yet have
any results for. Among the most recently joined members is one
whose ancestry has been traced back to about 1760 in Massachusetts.
We've already got 2 genetically distinct Pike lines in MA ... this
might turn out to be a third.

Incidentally, I learned recently that Allen R. Pike's book about
John Pike's family briefly mentions 11 other early Pike settlers in
New England, but it's not known if any of these early Pike's are
related to each other. To muse out loud, it would be great if we
could get these families to be represented in the project too.
