Outline: The course covers the textbook almost completely.
Examinations: There will be a midterm examination and a comprehensive final examination. The midterm examination takes place on Wednesday, October 14 during regular class time in our usual classroom. The final examination takes place during the examination period from December 10 to December 18 at a time and in a room determined by the registrar's office.
Online homework: Beginning Monday of the second week, there will be an online homework assignment. This has to be completed using the Brightspace shell of the course and is due on the following Monday. There will be no online homework assignment during the week of the midterm examination and no online homework assignment during the last two weeks of the semester. In addition, a reading assignment from the textbook will be given in every lecture.
Prerequisites: A combination of the mathematics placement test and high school mathematics scores acceptable to the department or three credit hours in first-year mathematics courses.
Examination criteria: The final mark will be computed using the following weights.
- Online homework: 15 percent
- Midterm examination: 25 percent
- Final examination: 60 percent
Policies: Eating, drinking, and smoking is not permitted in the classroom. While attendance is not required, it will be recorded. The use of electronic devices, especially cellphones, calculators, and laptop computers, is not permitted without explicit permission of the instructor. Electronic devices have to be turned off completely. While the use of artificial intelligence is permitted, it is not allowed to copy its answers verbatim.
