February 1808 Will of Richard Pike of Covent Garden, porter (proved 14 March 1808)

of every thing to be paid to Mother and get some
body to do it for them

Appeared Personally
Elizabeth Pike now residing at Battle Bridge in
the County of Middlesex Spinster John Wicks of 
Richardsons Hotel Coven Garden in the same
County Gentleman and Edward Burton of the same
place Gentleman and being severally sworn on the
Holy Evangelists to depose the truth made oath as
follows and first the said Elizabeth Pike for herself
saith that she knew and was well acquainted
with Richard Pike late Porter at Richardsons Hotel
Covent Garden in the parish of Saint Paul Covent
Garden in the said County of Middlesex deceased
for some years before and down to the time of 
his death which happened about 1 oClock of the
Morning of Monday the twenty ninth day of
February last and that on Sunday previous to his
death he the said deceased requested that pen Ink
and paper might be brought to him and that he
the said deceased then in the presence of this
Deponent wrote the words following as contained in
the paper hereunto annexed to wit "If on me you
"do find this will be satisfied Richardsons Hotel
"Covent Garden will thank John Wicks to open this
"and read the same time Edwards Burton Sarah
"Dovey L20 2 Nieces 10 the bill to be paid the
"Shares of every thing to be paid to Mother and
"get somebody to do it for them" and that on now
viewing and carefully perusing the said paper she
doth verily and in her conscience believe it to be
in every respect in the same plight and condition
as when he the said deceased so wrote the same
in this Deponents presence as aforesaid and the
said John Wicks and Edward Burton for themselves
make Oath and say that they also knew and 
were well acquainted with the said deceased for
some years before and down to the time of his
death and also with his manner and Character of 
Handwriting having often seen him write and 
subscribe his name and now viewing and carefully
perusing the said paper hereinbefore recited and 


hereunto annexed purporting to be and contain the
last will and Testament or Testamentary Schedule
of the said deceased they do verily and in their
Consciences believe the whole body series and 
Contents of the same to be all of the proper hand
writing and subscription of the said Richard Pike
deceased   Elizabeth Pike  John Wicks  Edwd
Burton  Same day the said Elizabeth Pike
John Wicks and Edward Burton were duly sworn
to the truth of this affidavit before me C Coote

On the fourteenth day of March in the year
of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and eight
admon (with the will or Testamentary Schedule
annexed) of all and singular the Goods Chattels and
Credits of Richard Pike late porter at Richardsons 
Hotel Covent Garden in the County of Middlesex
Bachelor deceased was granted to George Pike and
John Pike the natural and lawful Brothers of the
said deceased they having been first sworn duly 
to administer No Executor or Residuary Legatee
being named in the said will and Jane Pike
widow the natural and lawful Mother and next 
of kin having first renounced the Letters of 
Admon (with the said will or Testamentary
Schedule annexed of the Goods of the said deceased
