This is the last Will and Testament of me Maria Ann Pike late of Rose Cottage Surrey Terrace Park Road Peckham in the County of Surrey but now of No 8 Grove Terrace Peckham aforesaid widow I give devise and bequeath All my real and personal Estate moneys and effects whatsoever and wheresoever unto Newton Crosland of Hyde Vale Blackheath Kent Wine Merchant and James de Lacy Towle of New Boswell Court Lincolns Inn Middlesex Gentleman their heirs execu- tors administrators and assigns Upon trust that they or the survivor of them do with all convenient speed after my decease collect get in realize and receive the same and to pay thereout in the first place All my just debts and funeral and testamentary expences and the expences of carrying the trusts of this my will into effect and in the next place to provide for my son George Deleval a suit of Mourning Clothes of the value of five pounds at the least and then Upon trust to pay to my daughters Maria Major and Sophia Heath the sum of Twenty pounds each To my daughter Martha Pocock the sum of ten pounds and which I request her to accept to purchase a ring or other token in remembrance of me To my daughter Elizabeth Hewett the sum of thirty pounds to my daughters Mary Ann Crosland and Lavina Wilson and my sons Alfred and Frederick the sum of Sixty pounds each to my son James the sum of Thirty pounds and to my son George Deleval the sum of fifty pounds And upon trust in the next place to invest or place out in the ??? name of them my said Trustees in some Savings Bank or Savings Banks or otherwise as they my said Trustees may deem most advisable the sum of ten pounds a piece for the benefit of each of my Granddaughters following namely Mary Ann, Emm, Clara and Rose four of the Children of my daugh ter Maria Major Emma the daughter of my said daughter Sophia Heath Maria Ann, Lavinia Frederica, Mary Elizabeth and Isabella Fanny four of the Children of my said daughter Lavinia Wilson Harriett and Maria Ann two of the Children of my said son Alfred and Elizabeth and Elizabeth Mary two of the children of my said son Frederick the said several sums to remain at interest until my said grandchildren shall severally attain the age of twenty one years or be married whichever shall first happen and then to be paid to them respectively Provided nevertheless that if my said Trustees shall deem it advisable they may upon the application of any of my said Grand children pay the share or shares of her or them so applying upon her or their attaining the age of respective ages of Sixteen years upon such secur- ity (if any) for obtaining sufficient receipts as my said Trustees may require And as to all the rest residue and remainder of my said Estate moneys and effects Upon trust to pay and divide the same unto and between my said daughter Lavinia Wilson and my said sons Alfred and Frederick in equal shares and proportions and I do hereby declare and direct that the legacies hereby given to my married daughter shall be for their respective sole and separate use and that their respective receipts alone notwithstanding their Coverture shall be sufficient discharges to my said trustees for the same And I do hereby further declare that they my said Trustees or either of them shall not be answerable or accountable for any loss which may arise or happen in or about the investment of the said trust property or otherwise in or about the execution of the trusts of this my will unless the same shall happen by or through their or his respective wilful neglect or default nor shall the one of them be answerable or accountable for the acts receipts or defaults of the other of them but each only for his own acts receipts and defaults and lastly (thought not the least to be considered my Will is that in due time my remains may be taken to Bedwin as privately as possible and at the least possible expense and there laid in the vault prepared for my dear departed husband and now I beg to add a mothers blessing earnest and heartfelt pray- ing that all my dear Children may live in the bonds of peace and Christian love and with the fear of an all just and merciful God before their eyes and that if any animosity exist among them I earnestly hope that from the time this shall be read all offences will cease to burthen their memories as with continued discore there can be no prospect of a blessing from God and in humble reliance on the merits of my Crucified Redeemer I hope and pray that he may have mercy on my soul in the great day of trial and that we may all meet in His Heavenly mansions to part no more and thus ardently hoping I take a most affectionate leave of all I appoint the said Newton Crosland and James de Lacy Towle joint Executors of this my will and I request them to accept the sum of Five pounds each as a trifling remembrance of me I revoke all former wills and Codicils made by me and I declare this only to be my last will and Testament In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this tenth day of May One thousand Eight hundred and fifty two Maria Ann Pike Signed by the said Testatrix as and for her last will and Testament in the presnce of us who at her request in her presence and in the presence of each other have hereunto set our hands as witnesses Robert ???????
