clear in the solution.
Mid-term examination (
Solution )
The test date is (re-scheduled)
Friday, Feb 19, 2010.
The duration of the mid-term test is
50 min.
Test cancellation policy: In case it is not possible to
take the test due to
circumstances, such as storm, fire, University closure etc., the test will
automatically be scheduled for the next usual meeting time in
the
same week. If this happens that all three possible
attempts fail during the test week, there will be no test and
the weight will be added to the final exam. If a student
misses the test for health reasons, s/he has to write the
test during the test week. If illness continues for the
entire test week, the weight will be shifted to the final
exam. Any health reasons must be supported by a doctor's
note. Missing test must be finalized within the test week,
otherwise the weight will be multiplied by "0" (zero).
Project
The project requires a report of 3-5 pages typed in LaTeX in the format of articles published in the Journal of Fluid Mechanics~(JFM) (e.g. fast-track scheme).
An ideal project will have about 3 pages of JFM format. The project must be presented in the class.
Each student will have to select an independent topic by consulting with the Professor. A topic must be finalized before 17th February, 2010.
A project should be presented in the class during the last
week of lectures.
Please follow this link
to download JFM style files and examples.
Please follow this guidline
to prepare your project report.

Final exam
At most 30% of the take home final examination will cover pre-mid term materials. The format of the final examination is similar to that of the mid term examination. There are no sample examinations. Lecture notes, assignments, and mid term should adequately guide students for the final examination. We will have two most convenient days for the final exam. Taking the date administered by the register's office, we will shift forward/bacward to decide which two days will be used. By the end of lecture, students will finalize their schedule to pick up the examination. The solution and the examination must by returned to me within 24 hours from the pick-up time. The final examination may require to use a computer (e.g. MatLab) for the purpose of calculation or visualization.
