Printing the materials on this page
This note is intended for students registered in AM 2120 and AM 2130.
The class materials posted on this page (manual, notes, slides, labs)
are .dvi files. They are generated using a typesetting
program called TeX designed to deal specifically with the difficulties
of writing mathematics.
Your computer accounts will allow you to view all the posted materials
on your screen. On occasion, you will want to actually print some of
these documents. Here's what you do.
Bring the pointer over the highlighted text of the document you
wish to print.
Clicking with the left mouse button starts the previewer for
display on your screen. Instead click and hold the rightmost mouse button
on the item in question.
A menu pops up. Move the pointer over the second last item which
reads Save Link As... . Release the mouse button and a second
menu will pop up.
The new menu has an item towards the bottom named Selection
with a little box underneath showing a path and name of a file. If
you click on the OK button a copy of the dvi file
is saved on your account. You can edit the path or name of the file
before clicking on the OK button.
You now have a copy of the file in your account. Return to any one
of your local terminal sessions and check that the file is indeed where you
think it is (using the ls command). In MA-3030/3056 you can print it
using the command
ljdvi -Pmpljet filename
where filename is the exact name of the file you wish to
print. The file will be printed on the printer in MA-3056.
Depending on the number of people using the printer at the
same time, you may have to wait a while. You can check where in the
printer queue your document is by using the command
lpq -Pmpljet
To use the printer in EN-2036, you use -Plinuxlj instead of
-Pmpljet.
