School Room Eng Harbor 3 PM Janry 31st 1890 The Annual Vestry Meeting of which due notice had been given during divine Service at St Silas Church English Harbor was holden at 3 PM Janry 31 1890 Meeting opened with Prayer Present the Revd J Godden R.D. Chairman Robt W Facey Lay Reader Jacob Penny (Rich), Wm Beston (Mk) Church Wardens H G Batson Wm Batson (Wm of Mark) Alex Penny (Jos) Peter Penny Joseph Penny (Rich) Sexton Joseph Penny (Jno Sr) Mark Penny Arthur Penny (Jno of Jno) Isaac Penny Wm Penny late James Thirteen in all After reading the Minutes of the former Meeting it was moved that they be passed as read. carried Church Wardens Expenditure & Receipts were then read Receipts $ 11.87 Expenditure $ 9.78 Balance in hand $ 2.09 Moved by Mr H G Batson Seconded by Mr Peter Penny that the Acct & Receipts be passed as read carried Amount Contributed for Reader & Sexton was then read $26.28 which was short of what it ought to be it was then proposed that the balance of $2.09 be added to it. after a lengthy discussion about the dividing the amount it was proposed by Mr Wm Batson (Mark) Seconded by Mr Peter Penny that the Sexton receive the sum of $5.00 the reader the remainder $23.37 leaving the Sexton Short $2.00 & the Reader short $5.22 [in pencil are notes/calculations showing that the $23.37 being paid to the reader this year is short by 63 cents. The $5.22 figure is determined by adding this 63 cent shortfall to last year's $4.59 shortfall] The Revd J Godden then moved that a vote of thanks be given the Church Wardens for their services during the passed year seconded by RW Facey carried Mr Jacob Penny nominated for Ministers Warden for the coming year Moved by Mr Wm Beston (Mk) seconded by Mr Robt W Facey that Mr H G Batson be Church Warden for the coming year. carried Momved that Mr W B Grieve & Mr Mr Mott be elected to act as delegates for the next session of the Synod. carried Revd J Godden Chairman being anxious to get home before night asked Mr Jacob Penny to take the chair Proposed by Mr Arthur Penny seconded by Mr Isaac Penny that one days work on the Road in the fall be handed over to the Churchwardens to pay church expences carried Proposed by Mr Wm Beston (Mark) seconded by Mr Peter Penny that the Quarterly Collection be continued to pay of the Church Debt & Expenditures carried Meeting then closed in the usual form by Mr Jacob Penny Chairman John Godden R.D.
