In the name of God Amen
the fifth Day of July in the ninth year of the reign of our sovereign Lord
William the third by the grace of God of England Scotland France and Ireland
King Defender of the faith &c Annoq Dni One thousand six hundred
ninty seaven I Samuel Spicer the elder of Leigh within the parish of
Hampreston in the County of Dorset Apothecary being sick and weak in
body but God be praised of perfect mind and memory doe make and
ordain this to be my last will and testament in manner and forme
following Imprimis I bequeath my soul into the hands of Almighty God
my Creator and to Jesus Christ my blessed Saviour and Redeemer



by whose pretious death I hope to receive pardon of all my sinns and
my body to the earth from whence it came as concerning such goods
and estate which Almighty God hath blessed me with I dispose thereof
as followeth Item I give devise and bequeath unto my son henry
Spicer all that my messuage Outhouses and gardens now divided into
severall Dwellings lying and being in Wimborne Minster in the said County
of Dorset To have and to hold the same and every part thereof unto my
said Son Henry and to his heirs forever he my said son Henry or his heirs
paying unto my daughter Dorothy Spicer the sum of fifty pounds of
lawfull English mony within One year next after my decease item I give
and bequeath unto my loving wife Elizabeth all those my Leashold estates lying
and being within the Parish of Hampreston aforesaid and in westfield
or elswhere in or near Leigh aforesaid within the Parish of Wimborne
Minster aforesaid To hold to her the said Elizabeth my said wife for
and during so many years of the severall Terms which shall be to come
and unexpired from and after my decease as shall run out and
unexpire in the lifetime of her the said Elizabeth if the severall estates
in the said Premises shall soe long endure she my said wife paying
such debts as I shall owe at the time of my decease and keeping and
maintaining my younger Children Elizabeth and Sarah and after my
debts shall be soe paid as aforesaid and death of my said wife That
then the residue and remainder of the said severall estates and terms
of yeares which shall be then to come and unexpired of and in the said
premises shall be and remain unto them the said Elizabeth and Sara
their Exrs and admrs and assigns Item I give and bequeath unto my said
wife an estate for her life in those five Acres and halfe of Land lying
and being in Westfield aforesaid within the parish of Wimborne
Minster aforesaid the better to incourage her to pay my said Debts
and to take care of my said younger Children and after her decease I
give devise and bequeath the said Lands unto my Eldest Son Samuel
Spicer and to his heirs for ever Item I give and bequeath unto my sd
daughter Dorothy five pounds and to my daughters Susanna Honor 
and Mary to each of them ten shillings and unto my said Son Samuel
ten shillings all the rest of my goods rights   credits and Chattles not
before by me given or bequeathed my debts being first paid and
funerall expences discharged I give and bequeath unto my said
wife Elizabeth whom I doe make sole Executrix of this my last will
and Testamt And lastly I doe nominate and appoint my brother in
law Mr Christofer Pottciary and Samuel Baxter Overssers of this my
last will and Testament desiring them to be aiding and assisting to my said
Executrix in the execucon and performance of this my  Will In
witness whereof I the said Samuel Spicer the Elder have herunto sett my
hand and seal the Day and year first above written  Samuel Spicer
Signed sealed published and declared by the said Samuel Spicer the
Elder to be his last will and Testament in the presence of John Clifford
Richd Wright Hen Lewen

Probatum fuit [this paragraph continues in Latin to grant probate at London
on 25 November 1697]
