In the name of God Amen
I Joseph Skutt of the Citty of London Merchant being sicke and
weake of Body but of sound and perfect memory (Thanks be given
to Almight God) Doe make this my last will and Testament in
manner following First I Revoake and make void all former 
wills by me made Item I Comitt my soule into the hands of my Creator
my body to the Earth to be decently buried accordingto the discretion of my
Executor hereafter named Item I doe give and bequeath to my very
loveing Freind Fardinando Gorges of London Esquire And to his wife
and daughter Barbara Fifty pounds To be equally devided betweene them
for mourning Item I give and bequeath to my loveing Nephew Allen
Skutt the George Inn now possessed by James Hollibread and my
house adjoyning named the Plumb of Feathers now possessed by Richard
Rose with all the appurtenncs thereunto belonging to both houses Item
I give and bequeath to my Nephew and Godsonne The one halfe of a
Plantation lyeing in the Iseland of Barbadoes lately Purchased of Sr
Thomas Muddeford I say unto my Godsonne Joseph Skutt sonen to Mr
Benjamin Skutt The aforesaid legacie I doe bequeath And is called by
name of Buckland Plantation and is meant and intended the halfe of 
what Right I have in said Plantation Item I give and bequeath 
unto Mr Benjamin Skutts other Three sonnes by name William George
and Thomas The other halfe part of said Buckland Plantation of 
what Right I bought of Sr Thomas and Charles Muddeford Item I
give unto my sister Brock Twenty Pounds to repaire her house this
yeare And to her Two daughters Thirty pounds each To be paid at their
day of Marriage Item I give unto Elizabeth Skutt Jane Skutt and 
Mellior Skutt Three Hundred Pounds To be equally devided betweene
them Item I make Mr Benjamin Skutt of London my sole Executor
of this my last will and Testament Dated under my hand and seale

The Suppletory Oath of Benjamin
			   Skutt


Skutt Exequitor of the last will and Testament of Joseph Skutt deceased The said
Benjamin Skutt being sworn upon the Holy Evangelists to declare the Truth Did
say and depose That the said Joseph Skutt deceased was the brother of him this
deponent And the said Joseph Skutt did all his life and even to his death very
interely love him this deponent And did often times say and declare in his life time
to him this deponent and perticularly some short time before his death (whose death
hapned about the Fifth day of June one Thousand six Hundred Seaventy Four)
That he would leave the greatest part of his the said Josephs Estate to him this
deponent and this deponents Children and woudl make him this deonent his Exequi=
tor And this deponent doth farther say That the said Joseph Skutt did gett and 
acquire the greatest part of his estate by the imployment and businesse of him this 
deponent and such Freinds as were recomended to him by this deponent And the 
said Joseph Skutt hath often declared and acknowledged the same to him this 
deponent And this deponent farther saith that he this deponent is the onely survi-
ving Brother of the said Joseph Skutt deceased And this deponent saith That he did
finde the schedule annexed to the allegation by this deponent given in this cause 
amongst the papers of him the said deceased after his death cancelled as now it
appeares to be And he this deponent verely beleiveth that the same is Totally
written and subscribed with the proper hand writing of him the said Joseph Skutt
deceased And this deponent saith and deposeth That the said Joseph Skutt and he this
deponent did in or about the moneth of May one Thousand Six Hundred Seaventy four
goe together into Dorsetshire to see their Freinds And the said Joseph Skutt falling
sick of the sicknes whereof he died att the house of Allen Skutt att Poole in Dorsetshire
The nephew and heire of the said Joseph Skutt and his sicnesse there increasing 
The said Joseph haveing a desire to make his will being then of perfect mind and 
memory desired this deponent to send for Mr William Orchard (who is a witnesse
Examined on this deponents behalfe in this cause and a merchant of good quality
liveing in Poole and an intimate freind of the said Joseph) to make his will for him
which this deponent accordingly did on the Second day of June one Thousand Six
Hundred Seaventy Four And the said William Orchard being come to the house 
where the said Joseph lay sick This deponent did tell him That the said Joseph had sent
for him to make his will And this deponent went with the said William Orchard to the
said Joseph Skutt and acquainted him that the said Mr Orchard was come to him to
make his will And thereupon the said Joseph Skutt on the Second of June one Thousand
Six Hundred Seaventy Four being then of perfect mind and memory did call for Pen
Inke and paper for the said William Orchard And then this deponent did leave the said
William Orchard and the said Joseph Skutt alone together for the space of Two or Three
Howers and the said William Orchard afterwards comeing out of the Chamber from
the said Joseph Skutt The said William Orchard did then shew to him this deponent the
very last will and Testament of the said Joseph Skutt exhibited on this deponents
behalfe in this cause beareing date the Second day of June one Thousand Six Hundred
Seaventy Four And did then declare to this deponent That he had done or perfected the
will of him the said Joseph Skutt or to that effect onely That he wanted witnesses to be
present att the sealing thereof or to that effect And the said William Orchard did inquire
for Dr Segetary a Phisitian who attended the said Joseph Skutt in his illnesse but he 
being abroad in the Towne could not readily be found And the said Joseph Skutt deceased
being tired (as this deponent verily beleiveth) with dictating his said will and setling
his Estate did fall into a slepe and grew worse and Continued very ill to the time of 
his death and his said will was never after Tendered To be sealed or signed by him
