In the name of God Amen The Sixth day of September Anno Dom one Thousand Six hundred eighty foure and in the Six and thirtieth yeare of of the Raigne of our Soveraigne Lord King Charles the Second over England &c I Henry Sheere Senr of Deptford in the County of Kent Mariner being crazy in body but of sound and perfect mind and memory praise be there fore given to Allmighty God and considering the frailty and uncertainty of this mortall life doe therefore make and declare this my last Will and Testament in manner and forme following (that is to say) First and principally I comend my Soule into the Hands of Allmighty God And my body I remitt to the Earth whereof it was framed to be decently buried in Christian burial in hopes of a joyfull resurreccon and it is my desire to have a Sermon preached at my funerall and to be buried by day light and to be laid by the side of my late Wife and that four score Rings at Seaven shillings apeece be given at my Funerall out of wch number each of the elder brothers of the Trinity House (except the Nobility) Veagleman Mapleston Hall new Clerks there and Thomas Allebone Waterman there to have one and the remainder of them to be given to such of my Relacons and Friends as my Executor hereafter named shall thinke fitt to invite And for all other things concerning my Funerall I leave to the discrecon of my my Executor hereafter named And touching such goods Chattells moneys debts and Estate as God hath been pleased to blesse me withall in this life I dispose thereof as followeth First my Will and mind is that all such Debts as shall be by me owing at the time of my decease be truely satisfied and paid with all convenient speed next after my decease Item I give and bequeath unto the poore of the PARish of Woolleston in Glocestershiere where I was borne the sume of five pounds to be paid unto the Minister and Church wardens of the said parish for the time being and my Couzin Daniel Platt (if he shall be then liveing) to be by them distributed as they shall thinke fitt to the most Charity Item I give and bequeath unto the poore of the Corporacon of the Trinity House in Deptford Strand the sume of Twenty pounds to be paid to the Master Wardens and Assistants of the Corporacon for the time being to be by them distributed to and amongst the poore of that Corporacon where they shall judge to be most Charity Item I give unto the poore of the parish of Deptford Strand where I now dwell the sume of five pounds to be by my Executor hereafter named distributed to and amongst them where he shall see most need wch said sumes afore given to the poore my Will and mind is shall be paid within two weekes next after my decease Item I give and bequeath unto my loveing sonne Henry Sheere all that my Messuage or Tenement scituate and being in Debtford where I last dwelt in the life time of my late Wife and all the Rents issues and profitts thereof and all the Deeds and Writings that I have concerning the same for all the terme of yeares that shall be to come in the Lease by wch I hold the same at the time of my decease Item I give and bequeath unto my loveing daughter Elizabeth Clapp wife of Elias Clapp one hundred pounds of lawfull money of of England as a token of my Love to her to be paid unto her within two moneths next after my decease and her receipt for the same shall be a sufficient discharge unto my Executor hereafter named Item I give unto my Sonne in Law Elias Clapp and to my said daughter Elizabeth his Wife tenn pounds apeece to buy them mourning to weare in remembrance of me Item I give and bequeath unto my Granddaughter Ann Crookes wife of Thomas Crookes twenty and five pounds to be paid unto her wthin two moneths next after my decease to buy her a peice of plate as A token of my love to her Item I give and bequeath unto the said Thomas Crooks and Anne his wife my granddaughter all that my Messuage or Tenemt scituate and being in Deptford fronting the Greene and adjoyning unto the house now or late of John Wise on the South and all the prmisses thereto belonging lately purchased by me of Mary Severne and Susanna Clapp and all the Rents issues and profitts thereof and all the Deeds Writings and Evidences that I have concerning the same To have and hold the said Messuage or Tenement and all the Rents issues and profitts thereof unto the said Thomas Crooks and Anne his wife for and dureing the terme of theire naturall Lives and the life of the longer liver of them And after the death of the said Thomas Crooks and Anne his wife I give and bequeath that parte of the said House containing four roomes one over another next the Greene now in the possession of Richard White and Robert Jellman and the garden backwards and and other priviledges and Libertyes now lett with the same unto my Godsonne Henry Crooks sonne of the said Thomas Crooks and Anne his wife and to his Heyres and Assignes forever And the other parte of the said house containing foure Roomes one over another backwards now in the possession of Elizabeth Marshand Katherine Godfrey and the garden and other priviledges and Libertyes now lett with the same I give and bequeath unto Susanna Crooks (daughter of the said Thomas Crooks and Anne his Wife) and to her Heyres and Assignes for ever Item I give and bequeath unto my Granddaughter Susanna Helling one Hundred pounds to be paid unto her at her age of eighteen yeares or day of marriage first happening And alsoe I give unto the said Susanna Helling the bed bedstead pillowes Blanketts Quints Curtaines Vallances and what else belongeth to the bed where I now lye with the Chaires and stooles in my Chamber and the great inlaid East Countrey Chest and the Copenhagnon Chest withall the Linnen plate and Clothes and what other things shall be in those Chests at the time of my decease and all such furniture and other things in my Chamber that shall not be herein by me expressly given to any other person or persons And it is my Will that all the goods aforegiven unto the said Susanna Helling shall be delivered within one moneth after my decease unto my said daughter Elizabeth Clapp for the said Susanna Helling and the Receipt of my said daughter Elizabeth Clapp for the same shall be a sufficient discharge unto my Executor hereafter named against the said Susanna Helling Item I give unto my said daughter Elizabeth Clapp my fine Downe Deckbed wch is to lye instead of a Quilt Item I give and bequeath unto my Grandsonne John Helling one Hundred pounds to be paid unto him at his age of one and twenty yeares and alsoe I give unto the said John Helling all my bookes platts and Instruments that are in my Compting house two paire of pistolls my Cutlace my Sword and my ???ding peice And it is my Will and mind that the severall sumes of money afore hereby given unto the said Susanna Helling and John Helling shall be putt out at interest by my Executor hereafter named untill the same shall grow due unto them by this my Will and the interest thereof arising shall from time to time as the same shall become due be paid towards theire maintenance and education And knowing the Honesty and care of my Executor hereafter named it is my Will and mind that if a Losse shall happen of any of the sd money where it shall be out at interest that such Losse shall be borne by my Executor but by the said Susanna Helling and John Helling proportionably according to theire severall Legacyes by me to them given And in case either of them the said Susanna Helling and John Helling shall happen to die and departe this life before such age or day or Marriage as aforesaid Then I give the Legacy of him or her soe dying unto the Survivour of them And in case they shall both happen to dye before such age or day of Marriage as aforesd Then it is my Will and mind and I doe hereby give the Legacyes afore hereby given unto them unto my said daughter Elizabeth Clapp Item I give unto Thomas Crooks sonne of my Granddaughter Anne Crooks the sume of fifty pounds of lawfull money of England to be paid unto his parents within two moneths next after my decease for the the use of the said Child till he shall attaine his age of one and twenty yeares and his parents Receipt for the said fifty pounds shall be a sufficient discharge unto my Executor against the said Thomas Crooks Item I give unto Elizabeth White tenn pounds to be paid unto her within two moneths next after my decease And I doe hereby forgive unto the said Elizabeth White whatever she shall owe me at the time of my decease I give and bequeath unto my aforesd grandchildren Susanna Helling and John Helling and to the aforesd Thomas Crooks and Anne his Wife and unto Susanna Wilde and Elizabeth Clapp daughters of my sonne in Law Elias Clapp and unto Henry Sarah and Elizabeth Sheere children of my Nephew John Sheere deceased the sume of five pounds apeece to buy them Mourning to weare in remembrance of me Item I give unto my Neece Susanna Richards tenn pounds to be paid unto her when she shall come in person and demand it Item I give unto such maid servants as shall dwell with my daughter Clapp at the time of my decease fourty shillings apeece All the rest and residue of my goods chattells moneys debts and Estate both reall and personall whatsoever and wheresoever unbequeathed (my debts and funerall charges being first satisfied and deduted) I give and bequeath unto my said loveing son Henry Sheere whome I doe hereby make name ordaine and appoint sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament desireing him to be carefull in the Execucon and performance thereof And I doe hereby name ordaine and appoint my loveing Friends Mr Thomas Mason and Gyles Steele Overseers of this my last Will and Testament desireing them to be aiding and assisting unto my said Executor in the execucon and performance of the same and I doe hereby give unto them tenn pounds apeece to buy them mourning to weare in remembrance of me And I doe hereby revoake disannull and make void all former and other Wills by me at any time heretofore made In Wittnesse whereof I have hereunto putt my Hand and seale dated the day and yeare first above written Henry Sheere Signed sealed published and declared by the said Testator as and for his last will and Testament in the prsence of us Wm Storey Joh Jones Giles Steele Scr Jasper Rawlins his servt Memorand That Whereas I Henry Sheere afore named have (since the makeing of the aforesaid Will at severall times lent unto my aforesd daughter Elizabeth Clapp one Hundred and fifty and five pounds of lawfull money of England for the repairing of her Brewhouse and the dwelling house and Outhouses thereunto belonging in Deptford wch is for the good of her and her Children Now I doe hereby forgive unto my said loveing daughter Elizabeth Clapp the one Hundred and fifty and five pounds by me lent unto her as aforesd and doe hereby confirme the Will above menconed And my Will and meaning is that this Codicill is and be adjuded to be parte and parcell of my last Will and Testament and that all things herein contained and menconed be faithfully and turly performed and as fully and amply in every respect as if the same were soe declared and set downe in my siad last Will and Testamt In Witnesse whereof I the said Henry Sheere have here unto sett my hand and seale this three and twentieth day of March Anno Dom one Thousand six Hundred eighty four and in the first yeare of the Raign of our Soveraigne Lord King James the second over England &c the marke of Henry Sheere Signed
