In nomine Dei Amen I
Martin Rose of the Towne and County of Poole being at this 
present time ill and sickly whilst I have my reason and understanding
good doe make and ordaine this my last Will and Testament in manner
and form following And first of all I bequeath and commend my Soul
into the hands of my mercifull God and Father from whom I received it 
trusting in his rich mercyes through Jesus Christ his onely sonn my Redeemer
for the remission of all my sinns and acceptance through his mediation
and intercession And my body I committ to the earth from whence it
was taken in hopes of a joyfull resurrection at the last day to be decently
interred at the discretion of my two Executrixes my daughters hereafter named
And as for such worldly goods as the Lord hath been pleased to give me and I
shall dye possessed of I dispose thereof as followeth Imprimis imediately after
my decease my desire is to have the great Garden now belonging to my dwelling
house at West Butte to be parted into two equall halfe parts namely to part and 
plott out one half part htereof to lye scituated toward the Westward side And to
part and plott out the other half part of the said great Garden to lye scituated 
ther toward the Eastward side Imprimis Farther I now give and bequeath one
half part vizt the West half of my great Garden now belonging to my dwelling
house at West Butts and the house wherein I now live with my Mault house
and Cellar and Stable thereunto belonging as also the Cole house which I suppose
may be used instead and liew of a Turf house and also my Mill house and my
Mill and my Furnace and my mare or horse beast and all my clifft wood that
shall remain belonging to my said dwelling house at the day of my decease unto
my daughter Mary Bird Widdow imediately after my decease to her and her
heires and assignes for ever And also I order and give one moiety or half my
right in my pump well and water unto my said daughter Mary Bird as an
appurtenance unto my dwelling house and the premisses before named (reserving
the other moiety or half my right in my pump well and water for to remaine for
the use of my other two dwelling houses adjoyning And soe as that the pump
well and water may in future time after my decease remain in common for the


use of all the three dwelling houses and Tenement of mine lying now all
together there adjoyning each one unto the other Secondarily I give and
bequeath the other half part of my great Garden now belonging to my dwelling
house at West Butts in Poole the Eastern side half part (to be parted and plotted
out as above is expressed) and the dwelling house or Tenment at West Butts
wherein my daughter Mary Bird formerly dwelled next adjoyning to my own
dwelling house And also the Turfe house that heretofore did use to be be belonging
unto my own dwelling house And also that other Tenement or dwelling house
at West Butts in Poole adjoyning unto said Mary Birds dwelling wherein
Mathew Lockier now liveth together with the small Garden that usually belongs
unto that Tenement namely the same Garden plott that Mathew Lockier now
occupieth and enjoyeth together also with the Turfe house now also used and
enjoyed by Mathew Lockier I say I give and bequeath unto my daughter Ury
Smith imediately after my decease to her I give it for and dureing all the whole
time and terme of her own naturall life And after her decease the same to goe
unto the equall benefit of my said daughter Ury Smiths children their heires 
and assignes for ever or the same to goe unto the benefit of my said daughter
Ury Smiths child whether sonn or daughter if there be but one of her children 
then living But for want of such issue if there be no child nor children of my
daughter Ury Smiths body living Then after Ury Smiths deceased for want
of such issue Then the same to goe unto my two Granddaughters namely
Elizabeth Bird and Ury Bird equally between them to be divided if they
are then both living But if one of them be dead In such case the part
of my Granddaughter that is then happened to be be dead whether it be
either Elizabeth Bird or else Ury Bird in that case I give that part
which was to be for my Granddaughter dead unto her Brother and 
my Grandsonn William Bird and unto their respective heires and assignes
for ever equally berween them But if both of them be dead In such case
the parts of both my Granddaughters namely Elizabeth Bird and 
Ury Bird in that case I give both the parts of my said two Grand-
daughters if both dead unto their Brother and my Grandsonn William
Bird and unto his heires and assignes for ever And the appurtenances 
of the other moiety or half of my right in my pump well and water
reserved for the use of the two dwelling houses or Tenements in common
and for the use of all three dwelling houses lying there all adjoying one
unto the other Thirdly I give unto my Grandsonn William Bird all my
wearing apparrell both of woollen and linnen and of whatsoever kind it be
And also the sume of Twenty pounds sterling to be paid him within six
moneths after my decease if he hath then attained unto the age of one and 
Twenty yeares or be marryed or if not soe attained Then to be paid within
six moneths after my decease unto his Mother Mary Bird for his my said
Grandsonns use for to be improved for his best advantage as she shall think
fitt untill he shall attain unto the age of one and Twenty yeares or be married
And also I order and give him more two of my pewter or tinn platters and
two tinn plates Fourthly I give unto my Granddaughter Mary Bird my
Oval Table board that hath four leaves and my Clock and my large Holland
mapp and four red leather chaires and my best Carpet and the moiety of the
earthen ware the which are at present in the Roome which we commonly call
the little Parlour And also I give her one great Chest And also I give her the
sume of Twenty shillings sterling in money to be paid her within one yeare
after my decease if she hath then attained unto the age of one and Twenty yeares
or be married Or if not soe attained Then to be paid within one yeare after my



decease unto her Mother Mary Bird for her my said Granddaughters use
for to be improved for her best advantage as she shall think fitt untill she
shall attain unto that age of one and Twenty years or be married And
also I give her more the best of my brass Kittles and two tinn platters
and two tinn plates and one brass Candlestick and the silver dish that
I now in my sickness make use of and one silver spoon and the bigger
of all my gold rings and one of my broad hooped barrells and a
small square Table bord standing in my own Chaber where I now
lodge Fifthly I give unto my Granddaughter Hanna Bird a Chest of 
Drawers and three Holland mapps in their hanging frames and four
red Leather Chaires and my old carpett and the moiety of the earthen
ware the which are present in the Room which wee commonly call the
Little parlour aforesaid And also I give her a great white Chest and
my white box And also I give her the sume of Twenty pounds sterling
in money to be paid her within one yeare after my decease if she hath
then attained unto the age of one and Twenty yeares or be married or if 
not soe attained Then to be paid within one year after my decease unto
her Mother Mary Bird for her my said Granddaughters use for to be 
improved for her best advantage as she shall think fitt untill she shall
attain unto ye age of one and Twenty yeares or be married And also one
brass pott and one brass Kittle two tinn platters and two plates and one
brass Candlestick and one silver spoon and the great silver dish that doe
use to be belonging unto the little parlour and a stone ring and one broad
hooped barrell I doe likewise give and order for her my said Granddaughter
Hanna Bird Sixthly I give unto my Granddaughter Elizabeth Bird the bedd
that I now logg upon and also all other things vizt beddsteed curtains and
all materialls else thereunto belonging to fitt and furnish and apPERtaine unto
the said bed and make it compleat and fitt for Lodging And my small
plott of Land in Poole lying near adjoyning unto a Lane commonly called
Mrkett Lane I give her imediately after my decease and to her heires for
ever And also I give her the sume of Twenty five pounds sterling in money
to be paid her within one yeare after my decease if she hath then attained 
unto the age of one and Twenty yeares or be married or if not soe attained 
Then to be paid within one yeare after my decease unto her Mother Mary
Bird for her my said Granddaughters use for to be improved for her 
best advantage as she shall think fitt untill she shall attain unto the age
of one and Twenty yeares or be married Seaventhly I give unto my
Granddaughter Ury Bird one Feather bed and all materialls else
thereunto belonging to fitt and make it fitt for Lodging together with
the Feild Beddsteed & thereunto belonging and a silver dramm dish
and a brass morter and a small brass kittle and two tinn platters 
and two tining plates and the black looking glass in the Little Parlor 
and fower joyned stooles in the little parlor And also I give the sume
of Twenty five pounds sterling in money to be paid her within one yeare
after my decease if she hath attained then unto the age of one and Twenty
yeares or be married or if not soe attained Then to be paid within
one yeare after my decease unto her Mother Mary Bird for her my
said Granddaughters use for to be improved for her best advantage 
as she shall think fitt untill she shall attain unto the age of one
and Twenty yeares or be married Eighthly I give unto my Grand-
daughter Mary Smith hone Feather bed and all materialls else
thereunto belonging to fitt and make it fitt for Lodging and also a


great brass kittle and also two tinn platters and two tinn plates and a
smouth gold ring And also I give her the sume of Twenty pounds sterling in
money to be paid her within one yeare after my decease if she hatn then
attained unto the age of one and Twenty yeares or be married Or if not soe
attained Then to be paid within one yeare after my decease unto her Moth
Ury Smith for her my said Granddaughters use for to be improved for her 
best advantage as she shall think fitt untill she hath attained unto the age of
one and Twenty yeares or be married Ninthly I give unto my Grand daughter
Sarah Smith a silver dish (of the mould or form of a boat) And also I give her
two tinn platters and two tinn plates And also I give her the sume of Twenty
five pounds sterling in money to be paid her within one yeare after my decease if
she hath then attained unto the age of one and Twenty yeares or be married Or
if not soe attained Then to be paid unto her Mother Ury Smith within one yeare
after my decease for her my said Grand daughters use for to be improved for her
best advantage as she shall think fitt untill she shall attain unto the age of 
one and Twenty yeares or be married Tenthly my will is That if my
Grandchildren shall some of them happen to dye before theyare attain'd unto the 
age of one and Twenty yeares or be married namely if any of the children of 
my said daughter Mary Birds children shall happen to dye before have attained 
unto the age of one and Twenty years or be married Then in such case the
Legacy that belonged by virtue of this Will unto such deceased child shall then
be and remain equally to be divided between the surviving children of my said
daughter Mary Bird And also my will is That if either of my Grandchildren
namely either of the children of my said daughter Ury Smiths children shall happen
to dye before have attained unto the age of one and Twenty yeares or be 
married Then in such case the Legacy vizt of goods and money that belonged 
by virtue of this Will unto such deceased child shall be and remaine unto the
next chil that shall happen to be born upon the body of my said daughter Ury
Smith Finally all the rest of my goods chattells money creditts plate and
housholdstuff that I shall dye possessed of or interested in I give equally
between my two daughters namely Mary Bird of Poole Widdow and Ury
Smith of Poole (the present wife of Abraham Smith) whom I make joynt
Executrixes of this my last Will and Testament (my debts being first of all
satisfied and paid and my Funerall expences also paid) All the remainder of
my goods chattells money credits plate and housholdstuff I give equally
between my said two daughters before named namely Mary Bird and 
Ury Smith whom I make joynt Executrixes of this my last Will and 
Testament And I desire my sonn in Law Abraham Smith and my Kinsman
William Collens to be Overseers of this my Will and I give to them the
legacy of Five shillings to each of them I give the sume of Five shillings 
In witness whereof I have hereunto sett my hand and seale the second day
of December Annoq Dni one Thousand six hunred ninety two (1692)
Marten Rose signed sealed published and openly declared to be the last 
Will and Testament of the within named Martin Rose by the said Martin
Rose published and openly declared to be his last Will and Testment 
even after the words vizt West half between the 10 & 11 line (my dwelling house
between the sixteenth and seaventeenth lines) vizt the bed between the 59 &
60 line were interlin'd was sealed and delivered by Martin Rose as his last 
will and makeing void all former Wills by him made in prsence of James
Bussell senior his marke Uriah Edwards Alice Lockyar her marker Jno
Gigger scrivr
