The fifteenth day of July in
The yeare of our Lord God one thousand six hundred fifty and eight I
Richard Ridge the elder of Portsmouth in the County of Southton Gent being of good
sound and PERfect minde and memorie doe make publish and declare this my last Will and 
Testament in manner and forme following (that is to say) I give and bequeath to my
sonne Richard Ridge my Messuage or Tenement backside garden & apPURtenances lying 
and being in Portsmouth aforesd in a Streete there called St Mary Streete now in the
occupacon of Henry Bestlin his Assigne or Assignes. To have and to hold ye same
to y said sonne Richard Ridge for the terme of his naturall life And after his
decease I give and bequeath the same to Elizabeth Ridge my grandchild daughter of 
my said sonne Richard and to her heires for ever. And if she dye without issue
then I give the same to the heires of the body of the said Richard my sonne and for 
want of such heires then to come and remaine to my right heires for ever. Alsoe I 
give and bequeath my Messuage or Tenement with th'apPURtenances lyeing and 
being in Porthmouth aforesd in a Streete there called Penny Streete now in the 
occupacon of Francis Lucas unto my sonne John Ridge and his heires for ever.
Alsoe I give and bequeath my Messuage or Tenement with th'apPURtenances
adioyning to the other Tenement lyeing and being in Penny Streete in Portsmouth
aforesaid now in the occupacon of George Card unto Rebecca Ridge one of my
daughters and to her heires for ever. Alsoe I give and bequeath my Messuage 
or Tenement wth th'apPURtenances lyeing in Penny Streete in Portsmouth aforesd
now in the occupation of Edward Cooke unto my daughter Tabitha Ridge and her
heires for ever But if either of my said three children John Rebecca and
Tabitha shall happen to dye without issue or before he or she come to his or her 
age of one and twenty yeares then I give the Messuage or Tenement with the
apPURtenances of him or her soe first dyeing without issue or nor attaining to the age 
of one and twenty yeares unto my said sonne Richard Ridge and to the heires 
of his body lawfully begotten and to be begotten and for want of such issue then to 
the right heires of mee the sd Richard Ridge the elder for ever. And further 
my Will is that if two of my said three children John Rebecca and Tabitha shall
happen to dye without issue or before they shall attaine to their severall ages of one 
and twenty yeares Then I give and bequeath the Messuage or Tenement with the 
apPURtenances of him or her soe second and next dying unto my sd Executor and
to ye Survivor of the sd John Rebecca and Tabitha and to their heires for ever 
equally to be devided betweene them and for want of heires of their bodies then to
the right herires of me the sd Richard Ridge the elder for ever. And if all my said 
three children John Rebecca and Tabitha shall happen to dye without issue or
before they come to their severall ages of one and twenty yeares then I give 
the sd the sd three Messuages or Tenements with the apPURtenances in Penny Street 
in Portsmouth aforesaid to my said sonne Richard Ridge and to the heires of 
his body lawfully begotten and to be begotten and for want of such issue then to the 
right heires of mee the sd Richard Ridge the elder for ever Alsoe I give & bequeath


my three Messuages or Tenements lyeing together in St Thomas Streete in Portsmouth
aforesaid to my daughter Ellen and her heires according to the tenor of a Deed in
trust thereof allready by me made. Alsoe I give and bequeath to my sd daughtr Ellen
One one hundred pounds of lawfull money of England to be paid to her within three
moneths next after my decease Alsoe I give and bequeath to my said sonne John Ridge
two hundred pounds of lawfull money of England to be paid unto him as followeth (that
is to say) the one halfe htereof within three moneths next after my decease Alsoe I 
give and bequeath to my said daughter Rebecca two hundred pounds of lawfull money 
of England to be paid to her as followeth (that is to say) the one halfe thereof within
three moneths next after my decease. Alsoe I give to my sd daughter Tabitha two
hundred pounds of lawfull money of England to be paid as followeth (that is to say)
the one halfe thereof within three moneths next after my decease And for the
other halfe of the said monies given to my sd three children John Rebecca & Tabitha
my will and meaning is shall be paid out of the summer of seven hundred pounds 
due unto mee from the late Contractors for the Victualling of the navy and
shall be paid my said three children proportionably  as the same shall be had 
recovered or received of the sd Contractors But in case the sd John Ridge, Ellen
Ridge, Rebecca Ridge and Tabitha Ridge or either of them or any of them shall
happen to dye before he she or they respectively shall be of capacity or come to 
receive the same summe or summes of money before given and payable at the 
tymes aforesaid then the summe or summes of money of him her or them soe dyeing
shall remaine to the survivor or survivors of them and to my Executor herein
named equally to be devided betweene them Alsoe I give and bequeath to my said 
sonne John Ridge all my wearing apparell (except my gownes) Alsoe I give to
my sonne in Law Mr William Hempson five pounds Also I give to the 
children of my sister Anne Garpen twenty shillings a peice Also I give to 
my Cosen Alice Wested the summe of fourty shillings Alsoe I give to John Lyde
twenty shillings Alsoe I give to the poore of the towne of Portsmouth fourty
shillings Alsoe I give all my wines wearing cloathes both linnen and woollen 
unto my three daughters equally to be devided betweene them Alsoe I give 
my paire of Virginalls to my daughter Ellen And my will and true meaning 
is that my sonne John and my sd three daughters may quietly have and inioy
the monies given them by their mother my late decease wife which is the sumem of 
one hundred and twenty pounds which I have already given and paid them into
their owne hands And all the rest of my estate goods and Chattells whatsoever 
I give and bequeath unto my said sonne Richard Ridge whom I make Extor 
of this my last Will and Testament desiring the same may be duely PERformed 
hereby ratifying and confirming the same and revoking and making void
all former and other wills And I make and ordaine John Holt Esquire
and Samuell Biggs Gent to be Overseers of this my last Will and Testament 
to whom I give thirty shillings a peice In witnes whereof I have hereunto
sett my hand and seale the day and yeare first above written Richard Ridge 
Signed sealed published and declared to be the last Will and Testament of the
within named Richard Ridge the elder in the prsence of us (and twenty
shillings apeice to the six children of John Ridge the late deceased brother of 
the Testator by the said Testator given them to be paid within six moneths 
after the decease of the said Testator) wch was omitted to be putt into the
Will within written to this Will added before the ensealing and publishing

This Will was proved at London the second day of December one
thousand six hundred fifty eight before the Judges for Probate of Wills &


by the oath of Richard Ridge the sonne Executor &c To whom Admon &c was Committed
he being first by Commission sworne truely to Administer &c
