In the Name of God Amen:



I John Powell of the towne and County of Poole beinge Sick in body but of
good and perfect mind and memory (thanks be given unto god) Doe make and
ordaine this my Last will and Testament in manner and forme followinge First
I bequeath my Soule unto my Creator in Jesus Christ my body to be buried at dis-
crecon of my executrix and overseers And for my worldly goods which it hath
pleased god to give I give and bequeath as followeth (that is to say) First I bequeath
unto the poore people of the parish of St James in Poole aforesaid the summe
of tenn shillings sterlinge money to be distributed at the discrecon of my exe-
cutrix and overseers Alsoe I give and bequeath unto my sonne Peter Powell
Fifty pounds of good english money Alsoe I give unto Thomas Barnes and
Joane his wife my eldest daughter five shillings sterling apeece Alsoe I give to
William Peeke and Jane his wife my other daughter five shillings sterlinge a
peece Also I give unto my neece Mary Powell daughter to my eldest brother
Robert Powell three pounds sterling Also I give and bequeath unto my loveinge
wife Joane Powell all that my house and appurtenances Scituate in or neare
High streete of Poole aforesaid which I lately bought of Peter Cox of Winbourne to
have and to hold my Said wife for and dureinge her naturall life And after her
decease to my said sonne and his heires forever All the rest and residue of
all my goods and Chattles money plate lynnen woollen brasse pewter and all
manner of household stuffe whatsoever my debts beinge paid my legacies
performed and my funerall expences discharged I wholy give and bequeath unto
my wife Joane Powell whom I nominate ordaine and appoint sole Executrix of
this my last will and Testament And lastly I nominate desire and appoint
my good freinds Peter Lyall the elder and Edward Taylor of this towne and
County overseers to see this my will performed in manner and forme afore
said And I doe give unto them tenn shillings a peece for their paines to bee
taken therein Witnes my hand and seale The eighteenth day of November
In the yeare of our Lord one thousand six hundred fifty and sixe 1656 Jo:
Powell sealed and delivered in the prsence of Ed Taylor the marke of Henrie
Lock the marke of Agnes Lock wife of Henry Lock

This will was proved at London the fowerth day of the
moneth of June in the yeare of our Lord god one thousand six hundred fifty
Seaven before the Judges for probate of wills and granting administracons lawfully
authorized by the oath of Joane Powell the relict of the said deceased and sole
Executrix named in the said will To whom was committed administracon of
all and singular the goods chattles and debts of the said deceased shee the said
Joane Powell beinge first sworne in due forme of law by vertue of a Comon
well and truely to administer the same
