In the name of god Amen The xxii th daye of September in ye thousand 
fyve hundreth and fiftie and one yere of Christes ?????????on And in the fyfte yere of 
the Reigne of our Soveraigne lorde Edward the Sixte by the grace of god of England 
Frannce and Ireland kinge defender of the faythe and in earthe of the churche of 
England and Ireland the supreme hedd unto ????? I John Mathews Citizen and 
merser of the Citie of Bristowe of sane and hole mynde and memorie (thanks be to god) but 
sycke of bodye do make my last will and testament in forme and maner folowing that is to say
First I give and bequeathe my soule unto thandes of almightie god who created me and 
made me and by the passion of his only begotten sonne hath made me partaker of his 
mercye  And for as moche as yt hath so pleased almightie god to ad??yte and alowe me
amongs his electe and chosen in his derely belovyd sonne in the Recognysing of the same
I will my bodye to be h????ted and buryed amongs Christen people  Item secondarylie
I will that all my debtes be paid trulye and performed  Item I give and bequeathe to 
Tobye my sonne a hundred marks  Item I give and bequeathe to Judith my daughter
another hundred marks  Item I give and bequeathe also to Elizabethe my daughter A
hundred marks more  And yf any of these my Children do channce to dye and decease in
their mynoritie then I will his or their partes so dying in their mynoritie to remayne 
to the survyvors or survyvour  And it please god to feche all thre in their mynoritie then
I will the said two hundreth poundes to remayne to Alynor my wief into whose taytron 
and custodye I do comyt those my Children for the tyme of their mynoritie  Item I give 
and bequeathe to my syster Elizabeth Browne of Rosse ??????ys (yf she be alyve at my
departing) Tenne poundes  Item I give and bequeathe to Phillipe her sonne ten pounds
Item I give and bequeathe to Alice her daughter fourtie shillings Item I give and bequeathe 
Item I give and bequeath to Edward French my prentice fourtie shillings Item I give 
and bequeath to James White my prentyse fourtie shillings Item I give and bequeathe to 
Henry Clough prentyse xl ? Item I give and bequeathe to Anne my prentyse xl s Item 
I give to Agnes and to Anne my maydyns srvants xx s apece  Item I give to the poore
menys boxe foure pounds to be payde oute of hande at my buryall  Item I give to saynt

Jonys a gowne clothe in valew three poundes  Item I give to Thomas Williams & Steven 
Bragdon to every of them a gowne the value of bothe gownes mounting to fyve poundes 
Item I give to John Pekys Junior a gowne clothe mounting to three poundes  Item I given to 
Edward Teynt my brother that was shrene with me a gowne clothe mounting to iii l
Item I give to John Whyt a gowne clothe mounting to three poundes  Item I give & bequeth
to thuse of the poore people of this my parishe fourtie pounds whiche fourtie poundes I 
will to be delyvered within Sixe monthes after my decease to Davy Harrys And for the 
said fourtie poundes he and his heyres I will to be bounde in statute marchannt to paye yerely 
forever fourtie shillings that ys to saye every quarter tenne shillings to be payde to the 
proctours of saynt Nycholas PARishe to be disposyd unto the poore people of the same PARishe 
and namely amongs them unto those that are bedreden  The residue of my goodes moveable 
and unmoveable above not bequeathed I leve give and bequeathe unto Alynor my wief 
whome I do make my sole Executrix of this my last will and testament  Item I do constitute 
and ordeyne Davy Harrys and Thomas Williams Overseers of this my will Provided 
that for the PERformance of all this my will I will my said Executrice within vi monethes after 
my decease to be bounde in a more and greater some unto the foresaid Davy Harrys & Thomas 
Williams or els unto the Chamber of Bristowe for thaccomplishement of this my last will
and testament In wytnes wherof I the saide John Mathews have unto thes presentes 
putte my selae the daye and yere above specified  Per me David Harrys Maior of
