In the name of god amen The xi th Daye of August in the 
yere of or Lorde god 1562 and in the fowerth yere of or soveraigne Ladie Elizabeth by the
grace of god of Engalnde Frannce and Irelande Quene deffendor of the faith &c I John
Haggatte of Wells in the Countie of Somerset being sick of boddie yet parfecte of 
memory make this my laste will and testamente in manner and forme followinge Firste 
I bequeath my soule to almightie god my savior and redemer and my boddie to be buried in the 
parrish churche of Wells Item I doe give to the same churche towards the reperacons therof 
fortie shillings Item I doe give to the poore people three poundes Item I give to the mr and como-
nalties of the towne of Wells the some of fortie pounds of currant monney to be ordered and 
disposed in all manner and forme as mr Doctor Cretings monney was or is except the mr of 
the towne to have noe lone of my parte thereof The saide some of fortie pondes to be delivered 
by my executrix at the feaste of Sainte Michaell tharcheangell Whiche shalbe in the yere of 
or Lorde God 1564 Item I give to my brother Bartholmew Haggatt all my righte tightle


and interest which I have or oughte to have of and in the revercon of mother Pl??les house and 
apPURtenncs to the same house belonging in the parrish of Wells and in the saide Countie of Somrst
And the contynce therof to be made by my trustie frende mr Geffrey Upton Item I give to my saide
brother Bartholmewe Haggat all my righte tightle and interest of one close being parcell of ye
Marres lyeing in the Wester syde of Clements Close and in the saide parrish of Wells conteyning
by estimacon viii or x Acres of meddowe with all suche yeres as I have yet to come in the saide 
Close Item I give to my mother Isabell Haggatt iiii l of lawfull money of englande to be payed 
her yerely viz every quarter xx s during the terme of xx tie yeres yf she doe soe longe 
live to be assured and taken out of my close of meddowe called Culuteclose in Wells afore
saide Item I give and bequeath unto Mary Haggatt and Martha Haggatt and every of them
daughters to my saide brother Bartholmew the some of ??xx l of lawfull monney of England
which some of fortie poundes my executrix underwritten shall within six yeres after my
deathe deliver or cause to be delivered to the master of the towne of Wells and Burgeses of ye 
same to thuse of the saide Marye and Martha And the saide master and burgeses to be bonde 
for the paymente thereof at theire age of xviii yeres or be married And yf yt happen 
either of them to die before the saide age or marriage thother then living to enioye the whole 
fortie poundes And yf it happen both the saide children to decease before the saide mariage 
or age Then my will ys the same somme to remayne to my brother Bartholmew And 
yf my saide brother doe also die within the tyme before speciffied than I give and bequeth
the saide some of fortie poundes to the master and comonaltie of the towne of Wells aforesaide 
Item I give and bequeath to Cicele my Wief all my righte tightle and interest which I have 
yet to come of and in the personage of Est pennarde within the Countie of Somerst And
all my termes of yeres  yet to come in the same yf she soe longe live And after her 
decease my will ys the same leace to remayne to Willm Wigmore my sonne in lawe And 
the same leace to remayne in the custodie of the chamber of Bristowe during the naturall 
lyef of the said Cecillie my Wief Item I give to Polidore and Willm my sonnes in lawe
all my wearing apparrell equally to be devided betwixt them except hereafter excepted 
and one scarlet gowne excepted Item I give to my mother in lawe mrs Chester of Bristow 
one wretched Jemowe of golde Item I give to my brother in lawe John Peeks nowe maior 
of Bristowe one Sorrell nagge Item I give to Walter Peeks of Bristowe my seconde 
gowne ???ded with velvet Item I give to Jeffrey Upton gentleman one portegew of golde It
I give to his wief my hoope rings of golde Item I give to mr Rodney A Ringe of golde wth
A deathes hed in the stone Item I give to Sr Thomas Hooper one pece of golde of ? xxx s 
Item I give to Robarte Watkins my russet gowne and one yonge grey mare Item I give 
to Robarte Shepparde my blacke gowne Item I give to every of my servnts besides theire 
wages ? x s Item I give and bequeath to John Thomas srvnte to mr Peeks in Bristoll 
When his yeres of prentisshipp be expired the some of tenne poundes of currante monney Item I 
give to John Bulman the sonne of Cutberd Bulman ? vi l xiii s iiii d to be payed in manner and forme 
following viz ? iii l vi s viii d And at the feaste of Sainte Michaell Tharcheangell next 
after my death And thother ? iii l vi s viii d at the feaste of Sainte Michaell tharcheangell
then next after thother Feaste Item I give to Augustyne Bulman my morning gowne The 
residue of all my goods not given nor bequeathed I doe give and bequeath to Cicele my Wief 
whome I ordayne and make to be my whole executrix to see this my laste will and testament 
PERformed Also I doe make my Overseers my trustie frendes Geffrey Uptonne gentleman and
Thomas Hooper clerke one of the vicars of the cathedrall churche of Wells In Witnes that this 
is my very laste will and true testamente y??? mr Richarde Sheparde vicar of Sainte Cutberds
in Wells Sr Thomas Hooper aforesaide Mr Geffrey Upton mr George Rodney Esquire my
