This is the last Will and 
Testament of me Brune Cockram of Sandwich in the Isle 
of Purbecke and County of Dorsett Gent made the five 
and twentieth day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand
Seven hundred and twenty eight Imprimis I Revoke all
former Wills by me made heretofore made Item my
will and desire is that all my debts and Funerall Charges
and Expences be first paid and Satisfyed Item I do allow
order and appoint the sume of forty pounds of Lawfull
money of Great Brittain to be laid out and Expended by
my Executor hereinafter named in my Funerall Expence
and my Will and desire is that my body be laid in a double 
Coffen and be borne and carryed to my Grave by Eight of 
my Tenants to be as under bearers and my Will and desire 
is that each of my Paule bearers may have delivered 
them by my Executor hereinafter named silk Hat bands 
and the best of Mourning Gloves and each of my under
bearers Common mourning Gloves and also that Richard
Brine Marriner and Jonathan Cole of Northbrook
Taylor and my Trustees hereinafter named may have 
each of them a Silk Hatt band and a paire of best mourning 
Gloves and my furder Will and desire is that my grave
be diged full six foot deep Close by my late Mother Mary
Cockram widow deceased in the Parish Church of Sandwich
and also that my Executor hereinafter named do cause a
good Toomstone to be laid on my Grave and do cause the 
Bell at my Funerall to begin Tooling at Eight a Clock in 
the mourning before my Funerall and so to Continue till
three in the after noon and also that my Executors herein
after named do cause a Funerall Sermon to be Preached
at my Funerall by Mr William Russell of Winbourn or by


Mr Maning of Lanton and to pay either of them for 
preaching the same one Septer peice of Gold and my
Funerall Subject to be on the Eight and forteenth Verses
of the thirteenth Chapter of the Epistle of the Hebrews
Item I give unto twenty poor persons settled Inhabitants 
of the parish of Sandwich and not receiving any Alms of
the said Parish of Sandwich the sume of five pounds of 
Lawfull money of Great Brittain to be paid by my
Executor hereinafter named in three months after my
my Decease Equally alike so such person as my Executor
and Trustees hereinafter named shall think proper to 
Nominate and Appoint Item I give unto twenty poor persons
settled Inhabitants of the Borough of Corfe Castle 
the like sume of five pounds of Lawfull money of Great 
Britain to be paid by my Exectuor  hereinafter named
in three months after my Decease equally alike to such
persons as my Executor  and Trustees hereinafter 
Named shall think proper to Nominate and appoint
Item I give and bequeath unto my Brother Thomas 
Cockram one shilling Item I give and bequeath unto my
Brother in Law John Vincent one shilling Item I give
and bequeath unto my Brother in Law Samuell Serrell one
shillings Item I give unto my Sister Vincent one shilling 
Item I give and bequeath unto my Brother in Law Anthony
Wareham  the sume of one shilling Item I give and bequeath
unto my Sister Anna Waream the sume of one shilling 
Item I give unto my Neice Elizabeth Waream the sume of 
five pounds which said sume my will is should be laid out 
in buying of herself a Mourning Suite only and to be laid 
out upon no other Occasion whatsoever Item I give and 
bequeath unto my Neice Mary Serrell the sume of five
pounds my will is which said sume shall be laid out in
buying of her a Mourning Suite only Item I give unto
my Neice Jane Serrell the sume of five pounds which said 
sume my will is should be laid out in buying of her a 
Mourning Suite only Item I give and bequeath unto 
Richard Brine of Sandwich Mariner the sume of forty
pounds of Lawfull money of Great Brittain to be paid 
him by my Executor  hereinafter named in three months
after my Decease Item I give and bequeath unto Jonathan
Cole of North Brook Tayler the sume of thirty pounds
of Lawfull money of Great Brittain to be paid by my
Executor  hereinafter named in three months after my
Decease and I also give unto Jonathan Cole my Horse
Bridle and Sadle Item I give and bequeath unto the 
aforesaid Richard Brine my best Suite of Cloaths and
one Holland Shirt and one Muslin Cravat and one Pair 
of Stockins and one Hatt Item I give and bequeath unto
the aforesaid Jonathan Cole my Second best Suite of Clo??
one Holland Shirt one Muslin Cravat one Hatt and one 
pair of stockins Item I give and bequeath unto Sarah Smith


Spinster the sume of five pounds of good and Lawfull money
of Great Brittain to buy her a Mourning Suit of Cloaths to
be paid her by my Executor  hereinafter named on the
day of my Decease and also the use of all and singular my
Household goods beds and Table Linnen of what Nature and
kind soever and the use of all my Silver Plate of what nature
and kind soever now being at my dwelling House in
Sandwich to be carefully taken care of by her for and during
the Term of her Naturall life and then after her decease to
remaine all to my Executor hereafter named and my further 
Will and desire is that the said Sarah Smith shall have the
liberty of Burning all my fuell that shall happen to be left and 
remaining at my said welling house in Sandwich aforesaid at
the time of my decease Item I furder will and desire is that 
after the decease of the said Sarah Smith all and singular 
my Household goods Beds Table Linnen and Plate before given
to the said Sarah Smith to remaine to my Executor hereinafter 
named Item I do give Grant and devise all that my
Messuage or Tenement with the Orchard Garden and 
Appurtenances thereunto belonging Scituated lying and
being in the parish of Sandwich commonly called or known 
by the Name of Kerridges Tenement and now in my
Possession unto Sarah Smith and her assignes for and
during the Term of her Naturall life and by her the Messuage 
or Tenement to be keept in good and sufficient repaire at
her own proper Cost and Charge Except what shall happen
by Actadentall Storms or wether or acidents of fire 
which is not in her power to avoid  or withstand in such
a case then the said Messuage or Tenement with the 
Appurtenances is to be repaired and mended at the proper
Cost and charge of my Executor hereinafter Named and 
after the decease of the said Sarah Smith I give Grant and 
Devise the aforesaid Messuage or Tenement with the orchard 
Garden and appurtenances thereunto belonging unto my
Brother John Cockram and the Heirs of his body Lawfully
begotten and in default of such Issue my Will and desire is
that such wife as my Brother John Cockram shall happen
to leave surviving after his Decease shall and may have 
hold and Enjoy to her own use the aforesaid Messuage 
or Tenement with its appurtenances for and during the 
Term of her Naturall life and from and after her decease 
I give Grant and devise the same to my right Heirs for
ever Item I give Grant and devise unto the said Sarah
Smith and her Assignes for and during the Term of her 
Naturall life one Annuity or yearly Rent charge of 
twenty pounds of Lawfull money of Great Brittain free
from all Parliamentary and all other Taxes whatsoever to be 
had received and taken by four equall quarterly payments
viz on the twenty Ninth day of September and the twenty
first day of December and the twenty Fifth day of March
and the twenty fourth day of June yearly after my decease 
out of all that my Messuage or Tenement and Lands at Ower 


in the said parish of Corfe Castle and in the parish of 
Studland now in the possession of John Curtis or his
Assignes the first payment to Comence on the first of
the said quarter days as shall happen after my
decease with full power for the said Sara Smith and her
Assignes to distraine on the said premisses for the said 
Rent as often as the same shall be unpaid Item I give 
Grant and devise all these my Messuages or Tenements
Land and Hereditaments whatsoever with the 
Appurtenances Scituate lying and being at Ower 
aforesaid in the said parish of Corfe Castle and in the 
parish of Studland in the said Isle of Purbeck and
County of Dorsett now in the possession of John Curtis
and Chargeable with the said with the said yearly
Annuity or Rent charge of twenty pounds per Annum
during the Naturall life of the said Sarah Smith and
also these my severall Messuages or Tenements lands 
  Hereditaments and premisses with the appurtenances 
thereunto belonging or in any wise thereunto appertaining 
scituate lying and being in the Burrough of Corfe Castle in
the said Isle of Purbeck and County of Dorsett Now in the 
severall Tenures of John Benfield and Ralph Skreven
or their severall Assignes and all other my Lands and 
Hereditaments whatsoever scituate and lying and
being in the said Isle of Purbeck and County of Dorsett
unto my said Brother John Cockram and to the Heirs of 
his body Lawfully begotten and in default of such Issue 
my Will and desire is that such Wife as my said Brother
John Cockram shall happen to leave surviving after 
his Decease shall and may have hold and Enjoy the 
aforesaid Messuage or Tenements with their appurtences 
for and during the Term of her Naturall life and from
and after her decease I give Grant and devise the same 
unto my Right Heirs for ever Item I do make nominate 
and appoint the said Henry Vye Samuell Serrell and
Thomas Serrell of Sandwich Marbles my Friends in
Trust to see this my last Will and Testament truely 
performed and I doe also order and Appoint that they
shall be paid by my Executor hereafter named for all
their Expences and trouble that they may happen to be put
to in and about the Executing of the  Trust reposed in 
them by this my last Will and Testament and I doe also
give unto each of them forty shillings to be paid them by
my Execugtor hereinafter Named in three months time 
after my decease all the rest Residue and Remainder all
and singular my goods Chattells Rights and Creditts 
not herein before given and bequeathed I give and 
bequeath   unto my Brother John Cockram whom I
Nominate make and ordaine my full and sole Executor
of this my last Will and Testament Brune Cockram
signed sealed published and declared by the said Brune 
Cockram to be his last Will and Testament in the presence 


of us whose Names are under Subscribed as Witnesses and
by us Subscribed in his presence John Dolling Senr Thos Cole
