In the name of God Amen
The Second day of August in the yeare of our Lord
  One Thousand Six Hundred Seaventy and Seaven I Walter
Clavell of Bengall in East India Marchant Second sonne of Roger 
Clavell of La??cots in the Parish of Winfrith Naborough in the
County of Dorset Esquire being sicke in body but of good and perfect
memory (Thanks be to Almighty God) And calling to mind the uncertaine
Estate of this Transitory life And that all flesh must yeild unto death 
when it shall please God to call Doe make Constitute ordaine and declare 
this my last will and Testament in manner and forme following revoking 
and annulling by theis presents all and every Testament and Testaments Will
and wills heretofore by me made and declared either by word or writing And 
this to be taken onely for my last will and Testament and none other And 
First being penitent and sory from the bottome of my heart for all my
sinns past most humbly desiring forgivenes for the same I give and 
Comitt my soule unto Almighty God my Saviour and Redeemer in whom
and by the meritts of Jesue Christ I trust and beleive assuredly to be saved
and to have full Remission and forgivenes of all my sins And that my
soule with my body att the generall day of Resurrection shall rise again
with Joy And my Body to be buried in Christian manner and in or
neare the Tomb where my wife Prudence was buried if I dye in Ballasoe
And if in any other place to be buried at the discretion of my overseers 
And now for the setling of my Temporall Estate and such goods as it hath
pleased God to give me I order give and dispose the same in manner following 
(That is to say) First I will that all those debts and duties as I owe in
Right or conscience to any manner of person or persons whatsoever shalbe
well and truly contented and paid within Convenient time after my decease 
by my overseers hereafter to be menconed Imprimis I remitt to my
deare Brother Mr George Mumperson his heires Executors and administrators 
all money due to me from him or them by any Bill Bond or any other
accompt whatsoever And doe desire Sr Mathew Holworthy and the 
Relict of my Brother Roger Clavell deceased to cancell and deliver up
all Bills Bonds and other specialties concerning the same Item I 
doe remitt unto the Relict of my Brother Roger Clavell her heires 
Executors and Administrators All moneys due to me from her or any
of them by Bill Bond or any other accompt whatsoever And desire Sr
Mathew Holworthy to deliver up all Bonds Bills and other specialties 
concerning the same Item I give unto my dearly beloved wife Martha
Clavell the house I now live in in Ballasoe Together with all outhouses 
Gardens and appurtenances thereunto belonging during her stay in India
And after her leaving India or death which shall First happen Then to
Matthias Vincent in Carsam boyer in Bengall aforesaid Marchant
and to his heires for ever Item I will and bequeath unto my Honoured 
Father aforesaid and to my Honourd Father Mr Thomas Woodroof 
and to his sonne Thomas and daughters Sarah and Dorcas And to the
Relict of my said Brother Roger Clavell and to his sonne And to as many
								daughters


Daughters as were begotten by him which shalbe liveing and to my
Brother Roger Mumperson and to my sister his wife and to their Two son			altered to George in Origl
or which of them shalbe liveing And to my Brother Edward Littleton and
Elizabeth his wife and to Jane and Elizabeth their daughters To all and
each of them I doe give Tenn pounds a peice to be paid by my Executrix at
her arivall in England onely the Tenn pounds to Edward Littleton and his
wife and each of his Children I order to be paid within one yeare after my
decease Item I give to my slave Anthony his freedome from being 
a slave And doe hereby give him one hundred Rupees To be put into the
hands of my Overseers whom I desire to keep it by them or improve it 
for him till they think him fitting to manage it himself Alsoe I doe give 
unto him the said Anthony soe much money as will purchase him a cer-
tainty of Three Rupees per moneth during his life to be disposed of at the
discretion of my Overseers But in such manner That he shall not be able
to receive more than Trhee Rupees in any one moneth Item I give 
unto John Byam of Hagly in Bengall aforesaid Merchant one hundred 
and Twenty Rupees Item I doe give and bequeath unto my said wife Martha
all the plate Houshouldstuffe which I am now possessed of in India And
alsoe all her wearing Jewells noew in her possession and to her heires for
forever Item I give and bequeath unto the Relict aforesaid of my said
Brother Roger Mumperson All the housholdstuffe which she hath of mine			Origl so   should be George
in her hands and to her heires for ever Item I give unto the Church-
wardens and other the overseers of the poore of the Parish of Winfrith
aforesaid for the use of the poore thereof the sume of Five pounds To be paid 
by my Executrix Item I give unto the Churchwardens and other the overseers 
of the poore of the parish of St Peter in Dorcester in the County of Dorset
for the use of the said poore the sume of Five pounds to be paid by my Executrix
Item I give unto the Churchwardens and other the overseers of the poore 
of Sherborne for the use of the poore thereof the sume of Five pounds to be
paid by my Executrix Item I doe give and bequeath All the Rest of my
goods and Chattles unto my said wife Martha (whom I make Executrix of this
my last will and Testament) and to my Two sonns to be equally devided 
amongst them And in case of the death of etiher of my said sonnes before 
shall be of age Then his share or Estate hereby given shall fall to the
survivor And in case of the death of both of them before come of age Then
the halfe to fall and goe to the legitimate Children begotten by my said Bro-
ther Roger Clavell aforesaid to be equally distributed amongst them
and to their heires for ever And the other halfe to fall and goe to the issue borne
of the body of my said sister Elizabeth Mumperson Equally to be devided 
amongst them and to their heires for ever And I doe nominate order 
and appoint for the overseers of this my last will and Testament Mat-
thias Vincent aforesaid John Marchall of Ballosoe aforesaid and
Edward Littleton aforesaid And doe hereby fully impower and authorize
my said Overseers to pay what due from me to any person or persons 
whatsoever And alsoe to receive whatsoever due unto me by any Bill
Bond Specialty or other accompt whatsoever And when what is paid by
them out of what shalbe received shall be deducted the Remainder I doe
order and appoint to be paid to my said Executrix or to my Executor hereafter
menconed And whereas at this present my said deare wife Martha is
dangerously sick If therefore it shall please God to take her away in this
fitt of sicknes I doe order and appoint Mr George Trencher of London 
Merchant to be the sole Executor of this my last will and Testament In case
									of


of the death of my said wife in this fitt of sicknes I doe also order and
appoint the said George Trencher to be Guardian to my said Two Sonnes
untill they shall come of Age And I doe also order the said George 
Trencher (in case my said wife shall dye of this fitt of sicknes) That he 
pay all the said Legacies and guifts as my said wife (if live) is obliged 
unto And I doe order and appoint That my Overseers doe deduct for them
selves Five PER Cent out of all moneys and goods they shall pay and receive 
by vertue of their being overseers hereof And if the said George Trencher 
shall by vertue hereof Come to be my Executor I doe order and appoint 
him one hundred pounds for his paines to be to him and his heires for ever 
In witnes whereof I have hereunto sett my hand and seale in Ballasoe 
the day and yeare above written  Walter Clavell  Published and
declared to be the last will and Testament of the said Walter Clavell in the
