In the name of God Amen The seaventeenth day of May Anno Dom one Thousand six hundred eighty nine and in the first yeare of the Raigne of our Soveraignes William and Mary by the grace of God King and Queen of England Scotland France and Ireland &c I Elias Clapp of Deptford in the County of Kent Marriner being weake in body but of Sound and perfect mind and memory (thankes be to God for it calling to mind the certainty of death and that the time thereof is most uncertaine doe therefore declare this my last Will and Testamt in manner and forme following (that is to say) wherein and whereby First and principally I comend and comitt my soule into the hands of Allmighty God my Creator hopeing and stedfastly believeing by and through the meritts death and passion of my onely Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ to have full and free Remission of all my sinns and to inherit eternall Life And my body I remitt to the Earth from whence it came to be decently interred at the discrecon of my Executrs hereafter named And as touching such worldly Estate as God of his bounty hath bestowed upon me in this Life I dispose of the same as followeth (that is to say) First I Will that all my debts wch I shall justly owe to any person or persons at the time of my decease shall be truely paid Whereas I stand obliedged by statute Recognizance or Judgment or otherwise on before or after the marriage of my said wife Elizabeth to Capt Henry Sheares and to his sonne Henry Sheares now Sr Henry Sheares Knight or one of them to leave her the sume of one Thousand pounds of lawfull money of England in case she should survive me, wch said sume of one Thousand pounds I doe give and bequeath unto her to be paid her within one yeare after my decease or sooner as moneys shall come in sch is in full satisfaccon of her thirds or otherwise that she can claime togeather with all household goods and other things that she brought at the time of our Inter- marriage togeather with two Cabinetts or paire of Cabinetts heretofore or now in the dyning roome as alsoe a Table and paire of stands with another Table made of Cedar And Whereas I am possessed of and interessed in a certaine Messuage or Tenemt and prmisses scituate in Deptford aforesaid for certaine yeares to come at the yearely rent of six pounds PER annm The said Messuage or Tenement and prmisses with the appurtences I give and bequeath unto my said wife Elizabeth dureing her naturall life she paying the Rent and performing the Covenants dureing the remainder of the tearme yet to come and after her decease I give and bequeath the same unto my loveing daughter Elizabeth Clapp Spinster her Execrs Admrs and Assignes dureing the residue of the terme performing the Covenants therein specified And whereas I am interessed in one eighth parte of the shipp Robert and Margaret of London whereof my my sonne William Wild is Master wch said eighth parte and all benefitt and advantage thereunto belonging I give and bequeath unto the said William Wild and Susan his wife theire Executrs Administrs and Assignes Item I release and forgive the sd William Wild all such debts and sumes of moneys as he doth or shall owe me at my decease Item I give and bequeath unto my daughter Elizabeth Clapp the sume of fifty pounds to be paid her at the day of marriage or at the age of one and twenty yeares wch of them shall first happen and that the same be put out to interest for her maintenance and educacon Item I give and bequeath unto my sd daughter Elizabeth Clapp one large glasse Cabinett togeather with all the Damaske wch I brought from the Straits over and above what plate pearle rings and other things wch she hath of her owne heretofore given or left to her by any person or persons whatsoever Whereas my sonne John Clapp is indebted unto me the sume of three Hundred pounds sterling I doe freely forgive him the said debt and over and above the same I give and bequeath unto him my said sonne John Clapp the sume of five pounds in full satisfaccon of all demands Item I give and bequeath unto my daughter Patience the sume of five pounds in full of all demands Item I give and bequeath unto my brother Thomas Clapp and Jane his wife my trusty friend Mr Robert Castell Mr William Castell and Susan his wife the sume of Twenty shillings apeece to buy them rings to weare in remembrance of me The rest residue and remainder of all and singular my goods Chattells rights creditts and personall Estate whatsoever not herein and hereby by me given and bequeathed after my debts legacyes and funerall charges paid and discharged wch said Funerall charges shall not exceed above the sume of fifty pounds sterling I give leave and bequeathe unto my said two daughters Susan Wilde and Elizabeth Clapp equally to be divided between them parte and parte alike and I make and ordaine my said loveing wife Elizabeth Clapp and mys aid trusty friend Mr Robert Castell Extors of this my last Will and Testament not doubting of theire faithfull performance of the same according to my true intent and meaning herein declared and expressed And further I doe hereby revoake disannul and make utterly void all former and other Wills and Testamts by me at any time or times heretofore made And I doe hereby constitute and appoint this to be and stand for and as my last Will and Testamt In Witnesse whereof I the said Elias Clapp to this my last Will and Testamt contained in foure sheets of paper have sett my hand and seale to every sheet thereof and alsoe affixt my seale to the Labell or topp of the first sheet
