In the name of God Amen The
five and twentieth day of August anno Dni 1631 And in the seaventh yeare of the
Reigne of our Soveraigne Lord Charles by the grace of god of England Scotland
France and Ireland Kinge defendor of the faith &c I Mathewe Buck of Winterborne
in the County of glouc gent being sicke and weake in body but of perfect mind and memory
(thanks be given to Almighty god for the same) knowinge that all flesh is mortall and
consideringe Wth my selfe the incertenty of the tyme of my death beinge willinge
and desirous to settle that worldly estate Wch god of his infinite mercy hath lent me
before my departure out of this mortall life Do make and ordayne this my last will and
testament in manner and forme followinge That is to say First I Commend my selfe both
soule and body into the hands of god my maker and of Jesus Christ his only sonne my only
saviour and redeemer trustinge and assuredly PERsuadinge myselfe that by and through
his pretious death and passion (and not by any merritts or deserte of mine owne) I shall
be made pertaker of everlastinge life and live wth him for ever in his kingdome And
my body I Committ to the earth from whence it came to be buried in Christian buriall in
myne owne Chappell in the parish Church of Winterborne aforesaid And for my worldly
estate I dispose thereof as followeth Imprimis I give and bequeath unto the poore people
of the parish of Winterborne aforesaid the sume of five pounds in mony to be paid and
distributed amongst them at the discretion of my Executrix hereunder named
where shee shall thinke most neede Item I give demise and bequeath unto my lovinge
wife Anne all my Messuages Tenemts and hereditamts whatsoever lyinge and beinge
in any place or places wheresoever wth their and every of their apptenances and all the
Rents yssues and profitts thereof and of every part and parcell thereof To have and to
hold the same unto my said wife Anne and her assignes imediatly from and after my
decease for and duringe the full time and terme of five yeares from thencefort next insuing
and fully to be compleat and ended To the intent and purpose that my said wife shall yearly
and every yeare duringe the said terme raise the sume of One hundred and twenty pounds
a yeare of lawfull mony of England towards the payment of my debts and the raysinge
of porcons for my Children hereunder named in such sort and manner as is hereafter
in these presents expressed That is to say To and for my sonne John Buck the some of one hundred
pounds in mony to be paid wth the first mony that shalbe raysed as aforesaid after my debts
shalbe paid To and for my sonne Franncis Bucke the like some of one hundred pounds
in mony to be paid so soone as it cann or may be raised out of the mony aforesaid after my
said sonne John shalbe paid his said one hundred pounds And to and for my sonne James Bucke
the like some of one hundred pounds in mony to be paid so soone as it cann or may be raised
out of the mony aforesaid after my said sonne Francis shalbe paid his porcon of one
hundred pounds as aforesaid And to the further intent and purpose that my said wife shall
yearly and every yeare duringe the said tearme pay and allow unto my eldest sonne Thomas
Bucke the some of Forty pounds a yeare quarterly or halfe yearly as occasion shall serve
for his mainetenance so longe as he shall live abroad But if he shall live at home wth his
mother Then my Will is and I doe hereby appoint that my said wife shall pay and allowe
him but twenty pounds a yeare in mony and his dyett and being wth her in howse And to
the further intent and purpose also that my said wife shall duringe the said terme give
unto all my Children (except my eldest sonne) sufficient and competent maintenance
and educacon and breedinge out of the profitts of my saide lands and premisses Provided
alwaies and my Will and meaninge is that if after my debts shalbe paid there shalbe
above three hundred pounds raised out of the said six score pounds by the yeare as
aforesaid, that then the said Overplus shalbe paid unto and devided amongst my
said three sonnes John, Franncis and James equally betweene them part and part like
And that if any of my said Three sonnes John Francis or James shall happen to decease
before their said severall procons shalbe paid as aforesaid Then my Will and meaning is



That the procon of him or them soe dyinge shalbe paid unto the survivor or survivors of them
three, equally betweene them part and part like Provided also and my will and meaning is
that my said wife shall not (duringe the said terme) grant or make any leases or estates of or in the
said premisses or my part thereof (save such only as she hath for her Joyneture) for any longer time
or terme then only for the said five yeares nor shall (duringe the said terme) committ any w?s?
upon the said premisses or any part thereof Provided likewise and my further will and meaning
is that if my said wife shall at any time before the xpiracon of the said terme of five yeares marry
That then such husband as she shall so marry shall wthin tenn dayes next after he shalbe married
to my said wife enter into bond unto my Overseers herein after named to pay unto them yearly
the sume of Fifty pounds of lawfull mony of England over and above the said sixe score
pounds a yeare to be raysed as aforesaid, for soe many yeares and so long time of the said five
yeares as shalbe then to come from the tyme of the said marriage wch if he refuse so to doe Then
I doe hereby utterly take away and make void my said guift and bequest of my said lans from
my said wife for all the then residue aof the said terme of five yeares And then I give devise and
bequeath all my said lands and premisses to my Overseers herein after named and to their assignes
for all the then residue of the said terme of five yeares wch shalbe then to come and unexpired
to imploye the rents and profitts thereof to the intents and purposes aforesaid, and then my
said wife to betake herselfe to her Joynture and to hvae nothing to doe wth my said lands And
my further will and meaninge is that if the husband wch my said wife shall marry after my
decease as aforesaid shall enter into bond to pay fifty pounds by the yeare over and above the
said sixscore pounds per annm as aforesaid that then the same monie wch shalbe so secured and
paid by the said husband wch my said wife shall so marry shalbe paid unto my sonnes Michaell
and Peter Bucke equally betweene them part and part like towards their procons Item I doe
give devmise and bequeath unto my said wife Anne the advowson of the Parsonage of Winterborne
aforesaid, wth full power and authority unto her her executors administrators to grant
the same for one terme only whensoever or howsoever the same shall next happen to become
voyde or else by her selfe to present any able and fitt man unto the said Parsonage for one
terme onely whensoever the same shall next happen to become voyde by any manner of
meanes howsoever (at her choyce) to the intent and purpose that the mony shalbe made by
the grantinge of such advowson or presentacon shalbe paid bestowed and ymployed by my said
wife unto and upon my said sonnes James, Michaell, and Peter and the survivor and survivors of
them equally between them part and part like for and towards their augmentacon and increase
of ther severall and respective porcons Item I give devise and bequeath unto my said wife
Anne the use and occupacion and the receavinge of my rents of all my Chattels Tenements wth
the apptenancs wch I hold to me my executors administrators and assignes by my Lease or
leases for yeares for soe longtime and so many yeares as my two youngest sonnes Michaell and Peter
shall live wth her or that shee shalbe at the charge of the keepinge or breedinge upp of them
or either of them To the intent and purpose that all the benefitt and profitt that shalbe made
thereof and all the rent and monie that shalbe receaved out or for the said Chattell Tenements shalbe
paid bestowed and imployed unto and uppon my said  sonnes Michaell and Peter equally betweene them or to and upon
the survivor of them (if either of them happen to dye wthin the age of twenty and one yeares) for
and towards the better increase and augmentacon of their prcons respectively And after the said
Michaell and Peter shalbe out of their said mothers keepinge and that shee shalbe freed of that charge
or that they shall have accomplished their severall ages of twenty and one yeares (whether of them
shall first happen) then I give devise and bequeath my said Chattell Tenemts and the leases thereof
unto my said eldest sonne Thomas his executors and assignes for and duringe all the then residue of
the severall and respective termes of yeares wch shalbe then to come therein item I give and bequeath
unto my daughter Mary Bucke the sume of five hundred pounds of lawfull mony of England to be
paid unto her by my said sonne Thomas or by my heire whosoever he shallbe wthin three monthes
next cominge after the expiracon of the said terme of five yeares wch said sume of five hundred
pounds if my said sonne or my heire whomesoever shall refuse to pay or shall not pay the same
wthin the said three monthes Then I give devise and bequeath unto my said daughter Mary



her heires and assignes for ever all those two closes or PARcells of land called the Church feilds Wth
their appurtenances lying and beinge in Winterborne aforesaid beinge parcell of the demeas?es
of the Mannor of Winterborne aforesaid Provided alwaies and my further will and meaning is
that if my said sonne Thomas shall happen to depart this transitorie life before the expiracon of
the said terme of five yeares next cominge after my decease that then my said wife shall hold and
enioy all my said lands and Tenemts aforesaid and receive the rents and profitts thereof for and
duringe the full tyme and terme of seaven yeares next comminge after my decease payinge sixscore
pounds by the yeare out of the same for and towards the augmentacon and encrease of the porcons
of my said sonnes Francis James Michaell and Peter and the survivor and survivors of them equally
betweene them And then in that case I doe take away the procon of monie hereby given to my son
John (because he is to inherit my lands) and doe give the same porcon amongst his said fower
brethren and the survivors of them equally betweene them parte and parte like Provided
alwaies that if my said wife shall marry wthin the said seaven yeares as aforesaid that 
then her husband shall enter into bond to pay fifty pounds by the yeare ^ as aforesaid to the			^ over and above the Sixscore
intents and purposes herein before declared and as is herein expressed or in default thereof		  	  pounds by the yeare
my Overseers shall enter intot he said lands and premisses and receave and take the benefitts
and profitts thereof and imploye the same in such manner and sort as I have herein formerly
declared in case my said eldest sonne shall live and my said wife shall marry wthin the said
terme of five yeares as aforesaid All the rest of my goods Chattells plate Jewells houshould
stuffe and other thinges whatsoever moveable and unmoveable hereby not before by me given
and bequeathed (my debts and legacies being paid and my funerall expences discharged) I give
and bequeath unto my said lovinge wife Anne whome I make my sole Executrix of this my last will
and testament not doubting but that as shee hath alwaies in my life tyme bin lovinge unto me
and carefull for the breeinge up and educatinge of my Children soe she will be as carefull after
my decease to bringe them up and to see this my will PERformed in all thinges accordinge to my
true meaninge Provided alwaies and my will and meaninge is that when my said wife shall
depart out of and from my Mannor howse wherein I nowe dwell shee shall leave the said howse
fully furnished as nowe it is unto my heire and shall take noe part of the howshould stuffe
therein away (wch houshould stuffe I give wholy to my heire) except so much thereof as shalbe
ncecessary to furnish the howse wch my said wife hat in Joyneture, wch my Will is she shall
have or else the sume of thirty pownds in leiue thereof to be paid by my heire to be att his
choyce whether shee shall have these goods or the said thirty pounds And I doe nominate
entreate and appointe my good friends Sr Robert Poynter knight, Thomas Chester esquier
Phillipp Langley esquier, and my lovinge brother in lawe George Parker gent to be Overseers
of this my last will and testament And I doe give to each of them a gold ringe as a token of my
love to weare for my sake And I doe hereby revoke annihilate and make voyd all former 
wills and testaments by me made and do declare this to be my last will and testament In
witnes whereof and of all other the premisses I have hereunto sett my hand and seale the
day and yeare first above written Matt Buck  Signed sealed and acknowledged by
the said Mathewe Bucke to be his last will and testament the said xxvth day of August 
1631 above written in the presence of Ri Brydges, Ri Carter, George Bucke, George
Hartwell Nory pubq, Arthur Strange
