This is the last Will and Testament of me Thomas
Bonham of Petersfield in the County of Southampton as follows
first I hereby appoint John Whicker of Petersfield Clerk Edward Carter
of Portsmouth in this County Esqr my Relation and John Carter
of Duke Street Westminster Esqr Son of my late Relation Sr John
Carter of Portsmouth Knight to be Executors of this my Will
I give unto my Executors John Whicker Clerk Edward Carter Esquire
and John Carter Esqr two thousand pounds In trust to place the
same out at Interest and to pay the Interest and dividends unto and
between the four Sisters of John Carter of Duke Street Westminster
Esquire that is to Mrs Eveleigh Mrs Giffard Miss Dorothy Carter 
and Mrs Mary Carter Wife of Edward Carter Esquire during their
lives and after their decease the principal money to go to their respective
Children share and share alike I will and devise and direct that
the Receipts only of the Sisters of John Carter notwithstanding
their coverture shall be a sufficient discharge to my Executors it
being my intention that the same shall not be subject or liable
to the controul debts or engagements of their present or any after
taken Husband but solely at their own disposal I give unto my
Executors John Whicker Clerk Edward Carter and John Carter
three thousand five hundred pounds In trust to place the same
out at Interest and to pay the Interest and dividends unto Mrs
Carter of Portsea Widow of my late Relation Wm Carter of
Portsmouth Esqr and after her decease the principal money to be
divided share and share alike between her Children the Sons
part to be paid respectively within six Months after her decease
the Daughters shares to be under the same controul as their
Relations Mrs Eveleigh Mrs Giffard Miss Dorothy Carter and
Mrs Mary Carter I give unto my Executors John Whicker Clerk
Edward Carter and John Carter four thousand pounds In trust to
place the same out at Interest and to pay the Interest and dividends 
unto Mrs Betty Dunn Wife of John Dunn of New Alresford of this
County Esqr attorney at Law I will devise and direct that her
receipt only notwithstanding her coverture shall be a sufficient discharge to
my Executors it being my intention that the same shall not be subject 
or liable to the controul debts or engagements of her present or any future
taken Husband the principal money to be solely at her disposal in case
she should leave no Will then to be divided between her Children 
share and share alike I give unto my Executors John Whicker Clerk
Edward Carter and John Carter ten thousand pounds In trust to secure
unto my Friend Fielder King now residing with me at Petersfield the
Interest of the same as an annuity during his life the first half yearly
payment to be made one Month after my decease and so continue
by half yearly payments from that time and after the decease of my
Friend Fielder King the principal sum of ten thousand pounds to go to my
Residuary Legatee I give unto my Friend John Whicker of Petersfield
Clerk three hundred pounds to be paid at the end of six months after
my decease I give unto Daniel Plastow my Butler all my Wearing
apparel I give unto Daniel Plastow for his use during his life the 
House which I built in the back Lane commonly known by the name
of the back Lane or Parsonage Lane and after his decease to go to my
Residuary Legatee and his heirs I give unto Mrs Wootton my Housekeeper
all the Furniture in the Room she sleeps in that is the Chamber she



uses I give unto Mrs Wootton my Housekeeper during her life the Farm House
of mine now occupied by Wm Blunt Esqr called Bakers I mean the House
opposite Edward Bidens the Wheeler at Buriton in this County I do direct
that the owner of Buriton Manor Farm after my decease do keep the
House in proper repair for her during her life and after her decease the
House is to go to my Residuary Legatee I do direct my Executors do see this my
directions properly fulfilled I give unto all my Servants who shall be in
my Service at my decease and have lived with me ten years one hundred
pounds each to those who have not lived with me ten years fifty pounds
each to be paid as soon as my Executors can conveniently do it likewise the
wages that shall be due unto them I direct that each of them shall have
decent and proper Clothes as Mourning I direct to be buried at Eastmeon in
a decent but not expensive manner I give and devise to my Relation Edward
Carter of Portsmouth Esqr his heirs administrators and assigns all
that Estate in Sussex called or generally known by the name of Hardham
together with the Manor and all Rights Freehold Copyhold Leasehold Messuages
Farms Lands Coppices and premises of what and wheresoever I possess in
the County of Sussex I give and devise to my Relation John Carter of
Duke Street Westminster Esqr Son of my late Relation Sr John Carter of
Portsmouth Knight his heirs administrators and assigns all my Freehold
Copyhold Leasehold Messuages Farms Lands Coppices and premises where
and whatsoever they may be situated in the County of Southampton
I give and devise unto John Carter of Duke Street Westminster Esquire all
my Books Furniture China Plate Horses Cows and whatever may belong
unto me in or out of my House at the time of my decease excepting
what has been devised by me in the former part of this my Will I give
and devise unto John Carter of Duke Street Westminster Esqr his heirs and
assigns all my part or share of the profits arising from the Brewery
carried on at Portsmouth under the Firm of Pike & Co together with the
Houses Stocks and whatever belongs unto it for ever I do hereby appoint unto
John Carter of Duke Street Westminster Residuary Legatee to this my Will
  Tho Bonham  LS  Signed Sealed published and declared by the said Thomas
Bonham as and for his last Will and Testament in the presence of us
who in his presence and at his request & in the presence of each other
have subscribed our names as Witnesses hereto dated this twenty sixth day
of June in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and seventeen

This is a Codicil to the Will of me Tho Bonham I give to James Carter
of St Street Portsmouth as a mark of the respect I entertain towards him
the sum of two hundred pounds to be paid to him within twelve 
Calendar Months after my decease and I give and devise unto my
Relation John Carter Esquire his heirs & assigns for ever all such Estates
Lands and Hereditaments which I have purchased since the making
of my Will and I ratify and confirm my said Will in all respects
except as the same is hereby altered as Witness whereof I have hereunto
set my hand and Seal this day April 9th 1821  Thos Bonham  LS  Signed
Sealed published and declared by the said Tho Bonham as a Codicil to
his Will in the presence of us who in his presence and at his request
have subscribed our names as Witnesses hereto  John Mures  Edwd Patrick
Jr  John Small Junr of Petersfield and Buriton

This is a second Codiicl to be added to the Will of me the above named
Thomas Bonham first I revoke and desire that instead of the legacy




of four thousand pounds for the benefit of Betty the Wife of John Dunn
the same shall be reduced to three thousand pounds under the same
terms as are in my Will expressed and I give unto my Housemaid
Elizabeth Dalman an Annuity of forty pounds for her life payable
by my Residuary Legatee half yearly and the same shall be in
lieu of all benefit given to her by my Will and I give to James Carter
Esquire the further legacy of one hundred pounds in addition to the sum
given by the above Codicil and in order to prevent any doubts as to the
constructions of my within written Will I give devise and bequeath
unto my Relation John Carter Esquire in my Will named all and
every of my Real and personal Estate andeffects whatsoever and
wheresoever which I shall die siezed or possessed of and which I
have not before by my said Will wholly devised given or bequeathed
to hold to him his heirs Executors administrators and assigns
absolutely for ever subject nevertheless to the payment of the several
legacies and sums of money bequeathed by my said Will and I
give unto the said John Carter all trust Estates which are now
vested in me by mortgage or otherwise to hold to him his heirs
Executors administrators and assigns to and for the uses and
purposes of such trust Estates or mortgages and I ratify and
confirm my Will in all respects except as the same is hereby
altered In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and
Seal this sixth day of April 1826  Tho Bonham  LS  Signed

as a Codicil to his Will in the prsence of us who in his presence
and in that of each other have subscribed our names as
Witnesses  John Small Junr of Petersfield Shopkeeper  John
Holland of same place Grocer  Harry Hopkins of Alresford
Captain in the Royal Navy

Proved at London with 2 Codicils 19th January 1827 before
the Worshipful Jesse Addams Doctor of Laws & Surrogate by the
oaths of John Carter Esqr one of the Exors to whom admon was
granted having been first sworn duly to admr power reserved to the
Revd John Whicker Clerk & Edward Carter Esqr the other Exors
