MATH 6119: Computational Nonlinear Dynamics

This course cover fundamental numerical methods for nonlinear PDEs and Navier-Stokes equations. The main focus is on appropriate numerical methods for simulating unstable and turbulent flow problems. Equal emphasis is given in theory and computations, which means students are required to write computer codes in C++, Fortran 90, and/or Matlab.

Although the class will depend on lecture notes, the text book "computational fluid mechanics and heat transfer" is recommended. The lecture notes are prepared based on this text book, and this book does not cover all materials of the course.
