DD25 Accommodations and On Campus Food Information

The local organizing committee have made arrangements for two types of accommodations for the DD25 meeting in St. John's Newfoundland.

Downtown Hotel

The Sheraton hotel is one of the premiere hotels in downtown St. John's, conveniently located near the harbour, the base of Signal Hill, downtown restaurants and pubs. The campus (and meeting location) is a pleasant 3-3.5 km walk from the hotel either through old St. John's or along a small river trail. Google says approximately 40 minutes, but of course this depends on walking speed. A shuttle can also be arranged to campus. Please see this link for more information and booking information. Rooms start at $204 Canadian per night plus taxes/fees. The release date for the limited block of rooms at the Sheraton is May 22, 2018. There are, of course, many food options close to the downtown hotel. Breakfast may be purchased in the hotel ($$), or close by - a great coffee shop just across the street! Google is your friend here! If you come to campus a little early breakfast is also available at the university food court - see below.

Residence Style Housing Downtown/Signal Hill

Memorial University runs graduate housing in the former Battery Hotel location part way up Signal Hill, overlooking the harbour in St. John's. See here for more information. You can book by emailing stay@mun.ca with your full name, arrival and departure dates, anticipated arrival time, and contact information (email, phone number). Their staff will then book you manually and send you confirmation. You can book by email now, however after May 1st you can also call 1 877 730 7657. They will follow up with you closer to your arrival regarding their invoice and payment. The rate for these rooms is $125 plus 15% HST and 4% city accommodations tax. Food options are more limited close by the Battery. A walk down over the hill towards the Sheraton will give you many options. If you come to campus a little early breakfast is also available at the university food court - see below.

On-Campus Bookings

For those more budget oriented travellers and those liking the convenience of staying on campus we have arranged a block of dormitory style rooms on campus. The rooms will be located in the new Macpherson College just a few hundred metres from the meeting location. Macpherson is organized in "suites". Each suite has two separate bedrooms, each with a single bed. Everyone has a private bedroom and share a washroom and shower with the oother person in their suite. The 2017 rate was $120 per night for the suite including the 15% tax and 4% accomodations tax. This works out to $60 per person per night. This is a room only rate and does not include breakfast or meals. There is a university food court and vendors as well as coffee shops close by. This is no housekeeping during the stay, however there will be linen exchange on the 24/7 front desk. See the link below to book and pay for their rooms individually. At the time of booking you can make a request to share a suite with a particular individual, otherwise the residence staff will match people two per room.

To book your room in MacPherson college:

NOTE: The promotion code only works when you book under the above reservation link and only for the nights of July 21-29, 2018. Please book by June 1, 2018.

Payment is due at the time of booking by Visa or MasterCard. On your credit card receipt there will be a transaction from SpeedyBooker (this is the company that powers our reservation system) and they are out of the United Kingdom. To view the Cancellation terms please visit: this site
