 International Workshop

Polynomial identities in Algebras

Memorial University of Newfoundland, St. John's, NF, Canada
 August 29th to September 3rd, 2002

The Workshop will start its work on Thursday, August 29, 2002, at 9:30 a.m. and scheduled to end on September 3, 2002, at  5:20 p.m. All lectures and talks will take place in Lecture Theater AA-1043 on the ground floor of the Arts and Administration Building off Elizabeth Avenue.  Registration will begin on Thursday, August 29 at 8:30 a.m. next to the Lecture Theater in AA-1046.  Registration fee is $50 CAD or $35 US.  Please pay by cash, personal check, or money order. Sorry, but we cannot accept credit cards. Please pay the registration fee even if you will be later reimbursed as an invited speaker, etc.

Notice that there are no lectures or talks on the whole day of Saturday or Monday afternoon.  On Saturday we plan a day bus tour to the Seabird Sanctuary on Cape St. Mary (about 170 km from St. John’s) and on Monday afternoon a bus trip to Cape Spear, the East most point of North America (about 20 km from St. John’s). Please write to Mikhail Kochetov as soon as possible if you are willing to take part in either of these tours. We try to keep the cost of the tours low and we hope that your price will be $30 – 40 Canadian for two tours.

The weather for St. John’s can be found at http://www.theweathernetwork.com/cities/can/St__John_s_NF.htm.  At this point (Saturday, August 17), it is sunny and hot (25°C). But please be prepared for cooler weather and take something warm and waterproof with you. We strongly recommend walking shoes since there are many picturesque walking trails in the town and our day tour will also include walking a mile to the sea cliffs.

If you did not write your flight number and arrival time to St. John’s so far then please do so, if you wish you need to be met at the airport. We will try to arrange meeting you. In case any problem arises just take taxi and call your hotel. All participants who did not make hotel reservation themselves stay in two hotels:  Bed and Breakfast “The Roses”, 9 Military Road, andb Bed and Breakfast “Prescott Inn”, 19 Military Road. There is no public transportation from the airport. The distance from the airport to the city is 5 – 15 km. The price of taxi is under $20.

Attached to this message are the Schedule of the Workshop and the List of Participants. They also can be found on the web page of our workshop http://www.math.mun.ca/~yuri/PIA/default.htm .

Looking forward to seeing you in St. John’s. We hope you will enjoy your stay on the Rock!
