Statistics 2501: Course Review

Final Exam

Topics Covered

The numbers in parentheses are the associated book sections in the 8th edition of the text. Note that some material was covered in class in more (or less) detail than in the text. Supplemental handouts were also provided for some topics. This list overrules any topics listed or not listed on the original course syllabus:

  1. Interpreting and understanding p-values (Review handout).

  2. Simple Linear Regression: types of variables, finding least squares line, residuals, predicting values, $R^{2}$, correlation, inference on $\beta_{1}$, CI's and PI's for $y$ (10.1-10.8). 7th edition: Same section numbers.

  3. Multiple Linear Regression: Material mentioned in simple regression, plus: ANOVA table, overall (ANOVA) F-test, t-tests on individual terms in model, PI's and CI's for y, residual analysis, influential observations. Note that the work on influential observations is NOT in the text, but only in your lecture notes and a handout I gave out in class on Oct. 6 (11.1-11.6, 11.13). 7th ed: 11.1-11.8

  4. Higher order regression models; the partial F-test. (11.7, 11.8, 11.11). 7th ed: 12.3-12.5

  5. Models with dummy (indicator) variables (11.9-11.10). 7th ed: 12.1, 12.6-12.7

  6. Experimental Design: Definitions and Terminology (14.1), Completely Randomized Designs (14.2), Comparison of means-Bonferroni method (14.3, formula on p. 845, lecture notes), Factorial Experiments (14.4). 7th ed: 15.1-15.4

  7. Nonparametric Methods: Sign Test, Wilcoxon Rank-Sum Test, Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test (15.1-15.4). 7th ed: 16.1-16.4

  8. Time Series: Components, Autocorrelation, Durbin-Watson Test, models with seasonal variation, index numbers. (13.3, 13.9, 13.8, 13.1). 7th ed: 14.3, 14.9, 14.8, 14.1
