London International Youth Science Forum (LIYSF)
I have attended many conferences during my time at university, but by far
the most memorable of those was the
LIYSF (London
International Youth Science Forum).
I was a participant at the LIYSF in 1998, where I had the
opportunity to meet nearly 300 students from 60 different
countries. It truly was a remarkable experience. Then in 1999 I returned
to the Forum as a councillor in International Hall, where
my duties included chairing seminars, escorting participants to research
institutions and scientific venues, and assisting in
setting up for lecture demonstrations.
In 2001 I returned to the Science Forum as Deputy Host in Commonwealth
Hall. In this position I was expected to act as liason
between administration in the hall of residence and the LIYSF
Directors, to assist in the running of events in the
hall, chair lectures and seminars and to assist in setting up lecture
demonstrations.
In addition, this past summer (2002) I was Host of College Hall, and was
in charge of accomodations and running of the hall and allocating jobs to
staff in my hall. Through the Science Forum I have met over 1000 people
from nearly all walks of life, and have made many close friends whom I
still keep in regular contact with. Each of my years at the Forum were
very special to me, and the highlight is always the people.
The following pics were taken at the LIYSF in 1999, when I was on staff there
as a councillor of International Hall.
Other Conferences
I have attended many conferences at the Graduate and Undergraduate level
in Canada, including:

Sweden
In the summer of 2001 I went to Sweden to visit my good friend Jacob
Alvarsson, who I met at the London International Youth
Science
Forum in 1998. From 1998 to 2001 we kept in touch via phone and email,
and our reunion was fantastic. Two days in Stockholm and 10
in
Visby (which is in Gotland, an island in Sweden) in the summer time was
one of the most amazing experiences of my life.
