Minutes of the Annual Vestry Meeting of the Congregation of St Silas'
Church English Harbour held in the School Room on 15th February 1894

The Chairman opened the Meeting with Prayer

The Minutes of the last Meeting were read and confirmed

The Chairman read the Act of Synod relating to Church Wardens and Vestries

The Church Wardens presented their accounts for the past year showing

        Receipts        $19.31
        Expenses         15.07
        Balance           4.24

The Chairman explained that more than the amount of balance was due to the
Sexton

It was proposed by the Chairman and seconded by Mr George Batstone that the
thanks of the congregation be given to the Churchwardens for their services
during the past year
carried

The Chairman then nominated Mr Wm Batstone (Mark) as his Warden

7

It was proposed by Mr Alex Penny (Richd) & seconded by Mr Peter Penny that
Mr Charles Penny be elected People's Warden     carried

It was proposed by Mr Geo Batstone seconded by Mr Wm Batstone Mr Mr Peter Penny
and Mr Jacob Penny be re-elected sidesmen
carried

Mr Francis Penny proposed and Mr Wm Batstone Jr seconded that the Sexton
be paid at the rate of $14 per annum
carried

It was proposed by Mr Robt Facey seconded by Mr Wm Batstone that
Mr Wm Wells be elected Sexton   carried

Mr Alexander Penny and Mr Jacob Penny seconded that Quarterly Collections
by envelope as explained by the Chairman be adopted.  Envelopes to be sent
to each [looks like "journey"] man of 18 and upwards and to each married
man every Quarter       carried

It was proposed by Mr Arthur Penny  seconded by Mr Charles Penny that the
Reader be paid at the rate of $23 per annum     carried

The Meeting decided to run its own risks as to Insurance of the Church

14

The Chairman stated that English Hr had conributed $57 to the General
Church Fund

15

The List of contributions for Reader amounting to $19.50 was read by the
Chairman, who also read the list of contributions for Sexton

16

The Sexton accepted the balance in hand of $4.24 in satisfaction of the
amount due to him

17

No other business being brought forward the Chairman closed the
Meeting with Prayer
