In the name of the Father of the Sonne and
of the holie goste Amen The one and Twentie of November in the yeare of oure lorde god 1563 I
John Pikes the younger of the Citie of Bristoll mercer beinge of perfecte mynde
and of good Remembrance for the which I Rendre most humble and obedient thanks to
all myhtie god do make and Ordeine this to be my laste Will and testamente in manner
and Fourme Followinge as hereafter Followethe Firste and principallie I Bequeathe
my soule to allmightie god the Father of heaven moste mekelie desirvinge him to Receave
me to his mercie for his onlie sonnes sake Jesus Christe oure Savioure whom I wt my
ha??? Faithe and Soule do Confes to be the true and onlie me????? for as manie as shalbe
saved and that no good workes that I have done nor that other cann do for me cann Save
me but onlie the moste holsome passion and glorious Resurrection of my Savioure Christe
Who Sittithe at the Right hande of god the Father allweies makinge Intercession for
us all Repentannte Sinners And I beleve that he shall come in the laste Daie with
all honoure powre and glorie to be oure Judge This is my Verie true hope and 
Faithe in the which I most humblie Desire oure heavenlie Father and his onlie
sonne oure Savioure wt the holie goste oure Comforter iii parsons and one god to contynne
me to the ende of the Departinge of my soule from my bodie Amen My Will is that 
my bodie be honestlie buried win the Croude of St Nicholas in Bristoll at which tyme of
my Buriall I will that my Executrix shall provide some Well learned man to Declare
the more pure and livelie Worde of god to the edifienge of the Christian Congreg???
And as for the Talente that god hath left me of Temporall goodes my will is that it
be Distributed in mannor and Forurme as hereafter Followethe Itm I geve and
bequeathe to my lovinge and Naturall mother Mrs Chestar one hundrethe poundes to
be paide ???? by the yeare till the said hundreth poundes be fullie paide And yf yt shall
happen that she Discease before the said ??? be paide the Remainder thereof shalbe
paide where and to whom yt shall please hir to appointe Itm more to my said mother
Twoo yardes D?? of fyne Cloathe to make hir a mourninge garmente more I give
to my mother a Castinge Bottle of Silver and gilte to be Delivered to hir
wtin iiii Daies after my Descease Itm I geve and bequeathe to my lovinge and naturall
Brother Walter Pickes fiftie poundes to be paid in one Twelves moneths after my
Descease ???? I geve and bequeathe to John Pickes his sonne Fyft?? poundes to be
paid wtn three yeares Followinge Itm I geve and bequeathe to maude Pickes
Fyft?? poundes to be paide to hir at the Daie of hir marriadge more to my said
Brother Pickes iii yardes of Fyne Cloathe to make for him a mourninge gowne
and to my lovinge sister his wief ii yardes D???? Fyne Cloathe to make hir
a mourninge garmente Itm I geve and Bequeathe to my Naturall and lovinge



Sister Ciceley Hacket to the use of hir iii Sonnes xx iii poundes to be paide to hir the daye twelmoneth
after my decease xlli and that daie twelvemonethe next ensuinge xlli which is the full paymente
of the said xx iii poundes And she shall distribute the said xx iii poundes to her foresaid iii sonnes by even
porcons that is to seye to everie of them xxvi l xiii s iii d Itm I bequeathe and geve to my said naturall
and lovinge sister Cecelie Hacket to hir owne use Fyftie poundes to be paid unto hir at the Daie
Twelvemonethe next ensuinge my decease Itm I geve and bequeathe to Marie Wigmore my
said sisters younger daughter xx l to be paid ?????? unto hir at the daie of hir marriadge Itm I geve and
bequeathe to my Cosen Joane Longe a Cassocke cloathe to make hir a mourninge garmente with
a Ringe of goulde that my wief shall shall Cause to be made and to be Delivered unto hir beinge in
valew x l? for that she shall knowe althoughe she be absente that I have hir in Remembrnnce
Moreover I geve and bequeathe to my Cosen Elioner Frye ii yardes and an halfe of Cloathe to make
hir a Cassocke Itm wheras there be certen Reconninges of oulde betwene my sister Hacket and me
I forgeve hir Twentie markes therof in Recompence of certen garmentes Delivered unto my
Father Willm Pickes and to my lovinge mother his wief which she do well undrestande The
Reste of the Reconinge unto me ??w my Will is that myne Executrix shall Receave ?? as Dews
Debts and that Debts beinge Dischardged my will is that my said Executrix shall Deliver unto
hir A Ringe wt a turkes that hat bene longe in my kepinge Furthermore my will is that yf
Pollidorns Hillaker Willm Hillaker Willm Wigmore and Marie Wigmore shall happen
eny one of them to decease this lief I will that the said Porcon Remaine to the Srivor of ??? them
and yf they all happen to Die before the daie of payment above menconed my Will is that there
prcons Remaine to my said sister Cecelie Hacket and yf my said sister happen to Decease ??
this lief before the Tyme of paymente above menconed my will is that then the?? Legacies
shall Remaine to myne Executrix Itm my will is that the Legacies geven and bequethed
to John and Maude Pickes Children to my Brother Walters Pickes yf they shall happen
to Decease before the Tyme appointed for the paymente therof that there porcons
shall Remaine to my said Brother Walter Pickes and yf they iii nameley John Maude
and Walter happen to Decease before the tyme of Paymente above menconed my Will is
then that there said Legacies shall Remaine unto my Executrix Itm my Will as that in
like mannor wheras there Remaynethe certen ould Accomptes betwene my Brother
Walter Pickes and me I do acquite him therof Resortonge unto me Dew xxxvii l v s

last paste to be paide to me or to myne Executrix at St Andrews Daye next

after my decease I geve also to my lovinge sister his wief vi yardes of Fyne ?a?ten
and to my cosen Elisabeth their Daughter vi yardes of Fyne ?a?ten to make hir a k??t??
againste the daie of hir marriadge Furthermore I geve and bequeathe to my Naturall and
lovinge Brother Walter Pickes my gowne Furred wt Jennetes and my Coate st ??? velvet
Itm I bequeathe and geve to my sonne in lawe Andrew Cottrell xxxii l xi s xii d to be
paid unto him iii monethes after my Deathe which   was the legacie of his wief?

sonne Tobie Mathew one hundreth poundes over and above the legacies of his
Father John Mathew to be paid unto him at the age of xxii yeares Or yf it
maye appere to his Deare mother that he hathe ??st Occasion to bestowe the same
to his prefermente and profitable Comoditie before the said tyme of paymente
I will that then the said some of mony to be Delivered unto hym yf his said mother
shall thinke it good by her Descrecon Itm I geve and bequeathe to my trustie and
welbeloved sonne in law Hughe James one Hundreth Poundes over and above



one hundrethe markes that my predecessor gave unto Elisabethe Mathew hys Daughter Farther
my will is that yf my wief do happen to marie and that therbie she takethe not the use of my
Dwellinge house and be Residente uppon the same hirselfe then my will that uppon monethe
of absentinge hirselfe from the same that then my wief uppon Payne of one hundrethe Pounde
shall make unto my said sonne in lawe Hughe James a good and a sufficient Lease in the Lane for
the terme of the Lief of Elizabeth Mathew my Daughter in lawe his wief by godes sufferannce
yeldinge and payinge to my wief v pounde by the yeare And that he at the Receavinge of the
said Lease shall have all the Draprye in the Hall and in the parloure wt all the glasse in the windows
of the house in as ample m????? ????d ?? I leave it ??nd my Will is that he shalbe bounde
to his lovinge mother in lawe in suche Convenience sume as his said Lovinge mother in Lawe
shall thinke good for to lease the same in as good Case at the Deathe of his said wief as he
Receaved it and so  the same to retourne to my said wief or to whom she shall
appointe Itm I geve and bequeathe to Anne Cother my wiefes Kinswoman iii l to be paid
at the Daie of hir marriadge Itm I geve and bequeathe to the pore xll to be Delivered at
the Tyme of my Buriall xl the Rest to be paid by vl a Quarter untill the said xll be
fullie paide Itm I geve and bequeathe to the Repayringe of the highe waies betwene
westburne and Anste xxxl and I Desire my lovinge Frinde Mr Willie and my lovinge
Brother Walter Pickes to have the oversights of the same to s? yt Done And that the First
Daie of Takinge yt in hande my good wief and Executrix of this my last Will and testament
shall Deliver unto him xl and so afterwarde Dailie and weekelie as occasion shall ???e
