This is the last will and testament
of me William Rose of Sanwich in the Isle of Purbeck
Clerk made and published the first day of Aprill Anno
One Thousand six Hundred and Ninety Imprimis I devise all
my plate and Indore goods unto my Loveing Wife dureing her 
naturall Life with power to dispose to my sonnes or either of
them or their Children or either of them in her life time and to give to
my sonnes or either of them the remainder by her Will as she
shall think fitt Item I give unto my said Wife in lew of a Dower 
sixty pounds a yeare to be paid out of the proffitts of my
whole Estate by halfe yearly payments Xtmas and Midsumer 
the first of these payments of thirty pounds to be paid on the
first of these times of payment that shall happen after my
Death by my Executors after named or the survivor of them
Item I give unto my sonne Thomas the remainder of an Estate
in a house garden and Orchard wherein Mr Wm Kerridge and his
Wife now live bought of Mr Thomas Cockram of Sanwich as is
Indorsed on the lease in the hands of the said William Kerredge
also I give to my sonne Thomas foure peices of ground with its
Appurtenances vizt all quarring and ten sheeps light to pasture in 
Sanwich Southfeild and in a ground called Hancombe bought of
Samuell Tarry Senr Item I give my said sonne Thomas all the
stone that shall from time to time be dugg in the second peice of 
ground west of the drove in Sanwich Northfeild in the loer part
whereof JOhn Melmoth had a Quarr Item I give him the 
Remainder of an Estate determinable on lives in the same feild
being three yards of ground bounded on the West with the
Land of Thomas Cockram on the East with the passonage 
Ground both purchased of Anthony Serrell Item I give to my
said sonne Thomas the remainder of an Estate determinable 
on one life being a Tenement called Picklake in the parrish 
of Langton Matravers the Land of Thomas Trenchard Esqr 
Item I give unto my sonne Thomas the Estate of Land called
Wears Tenement with all its Appurtenances Edifices gardens
Orchards revertion and revertions whatsoever that belonged to
the said William Weare in his life time or that he had any
right unto he the said Thomas paying six pounds P Annm to
the Widdow Weare dureing her life three pounds every 
halfe yeare according to the Will of the said William
Weare paying alsoe to the said Widdow Weare and the
Widdow Cook five shillings each for a peice of ground called
Paradice with severall Houses thereon and for two lotts and
halfe in shods Acker dureing the naturall Life of the
Widdow Weare and dureing the life of the Widdow Cook
and after her death to her heires or Assignes dureing the 
terme of yeares yet to come which the said Widdow Cook is


to enjoy the one Moyety or halfe and deale of Item I give
unto my sonne Thomas the Mill and Mill house with all
Edifices thereunto belonging the Orchard gardens Meddows and
pasture grounds and all its Appurtenances paying the Lords
Rent and Rent charges Issueing out of the same as is
contained in the Lease granted by George Mompson of 
Langton Gent dureing the terme yet to come and unexpired
Item I give unto my sonne Thomas the house gardens and
Orchard and all other grounds and Lands bought of Anthony
Serrell of Sanwich for two hundred and twenty pounds and 
upward if the said Anthony Serrell doth not att a certaine time
Limited in a paire of Indentures mentioned under our hands &
seales redeeme the same all which are in the possession of Mr
George Clarke commonly called the new taylor one house and
garden lately was in the tenure of the Widdow Clements and
is the house adoyning to and West of Peter Govers Marbler
and the rest in the possession of me William Rose or my
Assignes my Will is that upon failure of the said Anthony to
make payment att the time in the foresaid Indenture mentioned
my sonne Thomas and his heires shall injoy the same forever
Item I give unto my sonne Thomas power to make a Joynture
to such a Wife as he shall choose of any of the land or Lease
before bequeathed him my Will is that if the said Anthony
Serrell shall repurchase the forementioned Estate that then a
hudnred pounds shall goe to the payment of my debts and the
Remainder shall be to the use and for the benefitt of my sonne
Thomas after a certaine time Limited hereafter Item I give 
unto my sonne William the Farme called Rempston in the parish
of Corfe Castle with all its appurtenances and privilidges 
whatsoever now in the possession of Mr Giles Collings of
Ower and alsoe the Revertion of a house or barne garden &
Orchard in Frogg hole in the parrish of Corfe Castle and also
the Revertion of a Farme Called Carants Court in the parrish
of Sanwich adn to the heires of him the said William Rose 
and also the Remainder of an Estate in a plott called the pound
and the Remainder of an Estate of Meddow and pasture called
Poeks ground purchased of the Feoffees of the Schoole of 
Ilmister with power to make a Joynture to such a Wife as he
shall choose of all or any of the said Lands in possession or
Revertion Item I give to him the said William Rose my
study of books except some small devinity books as his Mother
shall think fitt to make use of my Will is that he pay unto his 
Brother Tho: Rose forty shillings six monthes after the
Death of Onesipherus Bond in case he survive him to buy a
Bible and such other books as he shall think fitt Item my Will
is that what provision of victualls is in the house att the time of
my death shall goe towards the maintenance of the family
without any allowance for the same Item my Will is that while 
my sonnes William and Thomas live with their Mother she
shall be alowed out of the maine proffitts of the Estate twenty 
pounds more P Annm if but one then but tenn pounds P Annm 
and my Will is that both this and the sixty pounds before 


mentioned shall be paid to her neate without allowing any thing
for any taxes whatsoever my Will is that what foules or piggs are 
att the time of my death in or about the house shall be att the
disposall of my Wife towards the better inabling her to keepe
house and that my sonnes assist yr Mother att all times as 
occasion shall require with theire ?? and theire hourses Item I
give unto my sonne William nine pound and to my sonne Thomas
eight pounds P Annm out of the proffitts of the whole EState if
my sonne William shall think fitt to live in Oxford my Will is
that he hath forty five pounds P Annum or if att any other
place forty pounds P Annum and if my sonne Thomas shall
think fitt to live in any place for his Advantage in a way of 
Merchandizeing my Will is that he hath thirty pounds P Annm till
my debts and Funerall expences be all paid by my Executors 
after named together with all Legacyes who desire to be buryed
decently not Costly Item I give unto Doctor Thomas Rose of
Dorchester my Loveing Brother Carant Court to be injoyed 
after the death of my sonnes William and Thomas they dyeing 
without Issue and after the death of the Wife of either of my
sonnes that shall have it made over to her in Joynture after the
payment of my Legacyes and debts and funerall expences are paid
my Will is that fifty pounds a yeare be paid to my Loveing
Wife for foure yeares following if she happen soe long to
live and to dispose of the same as she shall think fitt to any
of my sonnes or their Children if they have any and for want
of such Issue to any of my or her relations Item my Will is 
that my said Wife shall have and receive to her owne use 
the proffitts of all such quarrs as are opened she surviving my
said sonnes their Issue and their Wifes or that Wife that
shall it in Joynture Item my Will is that if my sonnes 
shall be be willing to pay the debts that I shall owe att the time of 
my death that soe each may injoy what is before bequeathed 
  him paying each one

my Loveing Wife my sonne Tho: shall pay a hundred and fifty
pounds more then his Brother Willian in lew of Anthony
Serrells Estate and five pounds a quarter to comence from
the day of my death and to be in force till a whole yeare after
the death of Onesyphorus Bond of Sanwich if my said sonne
shall not think this fitt and proper for them to doe my Will is
that after the payment of my debts and Funerall Expences
are discharged my sonne Thomas shall pay unto his Brother
William Rose the one halfe of the monys due from Anthony
Serrell and then shall have the same att his owne disposall
whole and soly Item I give unto the poore five pounds 
twenty shillings to be paid by my Wife or her Assignes att
the day of my death and twenty shillings more yearly till the
said sume be all paid Item my Will is that my two new houses
lately erected be stated out for three lives a competent Lords
Rent being reserved and that the monyes given goe towards
the payment of my debts and if their be any reasonable prosser
for the Exchange of yeares in two lives of which Nathaniell
Bond of Lutten Sargent and Henry Hennin of Poxewell 
Esqr shall be Judge or either of them of or concerning any


Estate that was formerly William Weares my Will is that it be
accepted of and that it be applyed to the payment of my
debts Item I make my sonns William and Thomas Rose
the Executors of this my Last Will Revoakeing all other
Wills formerly made and my Will is that they mutually
and Lovingly agree and concurr to the most speedy payment
of my debts and Legacyes Item my Will is that my said 
sonnes repaire from time to time and as ought as need shall
require to my Loveing freinds and Kinsmen Nathaniell
Bond Sargent of Law and Henry Hening of Poxewell
Esqr or to some one of the m and that they follow their 
directions whom I make the trustees of this my Will to see
the same fullfilled according to the true intent and meaning 
hereby impowering them or either of them to enter on any
parte of my Estate to lett and sell and receive the proffitts
of the same in case my sonns shall faile to pay their
Mother what is before bequeathed her or in case of the failure 
of the payment of my debts till the same be paid and setled
according to the discretion of my trustees or either of them
and hereto I putt my hand and seale the day and yeare first
above mentioned William Rose published in the presence of
