In the name of God Amen The second day of
Aprill in the yeare of our Lord God one Thowsand six hundred sixty and Nyne
I Edward Langley of the Citty of Bristoll merchant being sicke and weake in
body but of sound and perfect mynd and memory (Thankes be given unto Almigh-
ty God for the same Doe make and ordayne This my last will and Testament in
manner and forme following That is to say First and principally I com-
mend my soule into the hands of Almighty god my maker and creator and of
Jesus Christ his only sonne my only saviour and redeemer Trusting and
assuredly perswading my selfe That by and through his precious death &
passion And not by any merritts or defects of myne owne I shalbe made per-
taker of everlasting life And live with him for ever in his kingdome of Glory
And my body I committ to the earth from whence it came to be layd in
Christian buriall in the Churchyard of Saint John Baptist under the tombe
of my deceased father and mother There or as neere thereunto as conveniently
may bee And as for that worldly estate which god of his infinite mercy hath
bestowed upon me in this life I dispose thereof as followeth Imprimis I 
give and bequeath unto my loveing friend Mr Richard Pownell Minister of
Saint John Baptist the somme of five pounds of lawfull money of Eng-
land To preach my funerall sermon Item I give devise and bequeath unto
the feoffees of the parish Land of Saint John Baptist in the Citty of Bristoll
aforesaid for the Tyme being of all those my two messuages or Tenements
scituate lying and being in the new buildings without the Pithay gate
within the Parish of Saint James   in the said Citty of Bristoll now in
the severall holdings or occupacons of one or ??? Bowen marriner and one
or ??? Baker or their assignes To have and to hold the said two messuages
or Tenements and every parte and parcell thereof with appurtenances there
unto belonging And all my right Tytle interest and terme which I have
therein to come unto the aforesaid Feoffees to and for the only use intent
and purpose herein after expressed and declared That is to say the rents
issues and proffitts thereof I give and bequeath to the use and benefitt of
poore houskeepers of the aforesaid parish of Saint John Baptist To be laid
out in bread and distributed amongst them weekely Item I give & beque-
ath unto my servant mayd Elizabeth F???ces one other messuage
Tenement lying and being in the new buildings aforesaid now in
the Tenure of one l??ke??gs or his assignes for and dureing the Terme
her naturall life And after her decease I give and bequeath the same
unto my daughter Elizabeth Langley her executors administrators and
assignes for and dureing all the rest and reside of the Terme therein to
come and unexpired And my will intent and purpose is That the feoffees
abovesaid shall pay and discharge the Lords rent of this last bequeath
Tenement out of the profitts of the two Tenements above menconed Item
I give devise and bequeath unto my daughter Elizabeth Langley and her
heires forever All that my new dwelling house and all pavements back
sides and gardens thereunto belonging scituate and being in Hall??s

Lane within the Parish of Saint John Baptist in the Citty of Bristoll to
have and to hold the same To her the said Elizabeth Langley in Fee simple
and to the heires of her body lawfully begotten forever And if it shall hap-
pen That my said daughter Elizabeth shall dye without Lawfull issue of
her body begotten That then and in that case I doe hereby give devise and
bequeath my said dwelling howse pavements backsides and gardens thereunto belon-
ging unto my nephew William Jones his heires and assignes forever Item
I give and bequeath unto my sister Judith Miller my silver possett Cuppe
and Tenne pounds in money to buy her mourning Item I give and
bequeath unto Mary Miller Rachell Miller & Sarah Miller daughters of
the aforesaid Judith Miller Tenne pounds a peece of lawfull money of
England Item I give and bequeath unto my loving Brother in lawe
Mr Henry Jones Clerke the somme of Tenne pounds in money To buy him mour-
ning Item I give and bequeath unto my said nephew William Jones
sonne of the said Henry Jones Tenne pounds in money Item I give and
bequeath unto Henry Jones Sara Jones and Richard Jones my godsonne
sonnes and daughter of the aforesaid Henry Jones the somme of fortie
shillings a peece as tokens of my love Item I give and bequeath unto my bro-
ther in law Alexander Morgan the somme of Tenne pounds in money to 
buy him mourning Item I give and bequeath unto my said brother in law
Alexander Morgans foure Children vizt William Morgan Edward Morgan
Elizabeth Morgan and Mary Morgan to each and every of them the some
of Twenty pounds of good and lawfull money of England the same to re-
mayne in the hands of my overseers hereinafter menconed To bee imployed
by them for the best benefitt and advantage of the said Children untill such
tyme as they or either of them shall attayne to the age of one and twentie
yeares or day of marriage which shall first happen And if it shall hap-
pen that any or either of the said Children shall depart this life before his
or her porcon shall become remayne unto the survivor or survivors of
them To be equally divided amongst them part and parte like Item I
give and bequeath unto my loveing friend Mr Walter Tacknell of the
Citty of Bristoll merchant the somme of Tenne pounds in money to buy
him mourning Alsoe I give and bequeath unto my loveing friend
Nathaniell Pownoll of the Citty of Bristoll gent the somme of Tenne
pounds in money to buy him mourning Item I doe hereby order & allott
the somme of Two hundred pounds in money to be Laid out and expended
on the Charges of my funerall out of which said some I doe order and ap-
poynt Two and forty Gownes and hatts for soe many poore mento atteine
my Corpes on the day of my said funerall And I doe appoynt five yards of
Cloath to each gowne at the rate of three shillings and fower pence PER yard
All the rest and residue of my goods Chattells money Plate houshold-
stuffe and estate whatsoever & wheresoever my debts and Legacies being paid & funerall
expences discharged I give and bequeath unto my said daughter Eli-
zabeth Langley whome I make and ordayne my whole and sole execu-
trix of this my last will and Testament And I doe desire my loveinge
friends the aforesaid Henry Jones Clerke Walter Tacknell merchant
and Nathaniell Pownoll gent to be overseers of this my last will and
Testament entreating them to be ayding and assisting to my executrix 
as much as in them lyeth to see that this my last will and Testamt
may bee ???ely performed And I doe hereby require and Charge my
said executrix upon my blessing to be ordered ruled and advised by my

said overseers in all things as they shall see fitting and conventient for her untill such
tyme as shee shall attayne to the age of one and twenty yeares or be marryed wth
their approbacon And lastly I doe hereby revoke and make voyd all former
and other wills by me heretofore made And doe ordayne this to bee my last will
and Testament In witnes whereof I have to this my last will and Testament
conteyned in these three sheets of paper sett to my seale and to every sheete there-
of subscribed my name the day and yeare first above written 1669 Edward
Langley signed sealed published and declared by the said Edward Langley
to be his last will and Testament the day and yeare above written in the
