In the Name of God Amen I Thomas Dixon of Clanvill in the parish of Wayhill in the County of Southampton Doctor of Divinity being sick in Body but of a sound mind and memory Doe make and ordain this my last Will and Testamt in manner following (that is to say) Imprimis I give and bequeath unto my Son in Law Mr Robert Pyke All that my Messuage or Tenement and half yard lands with the appurtenances lying in Clanvill aforesaid which I lately bought of William Lympas and which I hold by Lease from the Master Teacher of Grammar and thirteen poor Men of the Hospitall of Ewelme in Ewelme in the County of Exon for my life and the lives of my Daughter Sarah the now Wife of the said Robert Pyke and of Christopher Shute (and William Lympas decease) To have and To hold the same unto my said Son in Law Robert Pyke his Heirs and Assigns from the time of my decease for and during the lives of the said Sarah Pyke and Christopher Shute and the life of the Survivor of them in as full and ample manner as I my heirs or Assigns might or could have enjoyed the same also I give unto my said Son in Law Mr Pyke the Sum of Fifty pounds and my Chaise Coach and Horses and all my implements of husbandry and harness whatsoever Item I give and bequeath unto my good friends the Reverend Mr George Greenway Rector of Kympton in the said County of Southampton and the Reverence Mr John Border Rector of Penton in the same County the Sum of Two hundred pounds Upon Trust for the uses following vizt to put the same out at interest and pay the yearly income and interest thereof unto my said Son in Law Mr Robt Pyke and Sarah his Wife and the Survivor of them untill their Son John Pyke shall attain the age of One and Twenty years or in case he shall die before then untill my Grandson Thomas Pyke shall arrive to the age of One and Twenty years and upon this further Trust that in case the said Robert Pyke doe or shall within two months next after the said John Pyke comes to his age of Twenty one years surrender into the hands of the Lords of the Mannor of Ramridge in the said parish of Wayhill To and for the use of the said John Pyke for such lives as he shall nominate and in case of his death then to and for the use of the said Thomas Pyke within two months next after he shall be of the age of one and twenty years The Copyhold Tenement Yard land and premisses thereunto belonging now in my possession lying in Clanvill aforesaid and which he the said Robert Pyke claims to hold for his life by Copy of Court Roll of the Mannor of Ramridge aforesaid That then the said Sum of Two hundred pounds shall be paid unto the said Robert Pyke upon such his Surrender But in case the said Robert pyke shall dye before such his Surrender and leave any Wife living at the time of his decease and such Wife do or shall surrender the said Copyhold premisses To the use of the said John Pyke or in case of his death to the said Thomas Pyke as aforesaid Then the said Sum of Two hundred pounds shall be paid unto such Wife at the time of such Surrender And if the said Robert Pyke (or in case of his death) his Widow doe not make such Surrender as aforesaid Then in either of the said cases the said Sum of Two hundred pounds and what interest shall be then due shall be paid unto the said John Pyke within three months next after he shall attain the age of one and twenty years and if he shall not live to that time Then the same Sum to be paid unto the said Thomas Pyke within three months after his age of One and twenty years and in case the said John and Thomas Pyke shall both dye before such Surrendr as aforesaid or before the said Sum of Two hundred pounds shall become payable as aforesaid Then the said Sum of Two hundred pounds shall be paid to the said Robert Pyke his Executors Adminrs or Assigns Item I give and bequeath unto my said Grandsons John and Thomas Pyke the Sum of Five pounds apeice And whereas my Son in Law Mr Pyke intends to educate one of his said Sons Thomas and John Pyke to be a Scholar at the university my Will is that such Son so to be educated shall have all my Books and I hereby give them to him accordingly Item I give unto my Brother Mr Geo: Dixon and unto my Sister Mrs Eliz Phillipson Twenty shillings apeice to buy each of them a Mourning Ring Item I give unto my Sister in law Mrs Elizabeth Kent the sum of Five pounds to buy her Mourning and Twenty shillings to buy her a Ring Item I give to the poor of the parish of Wayhill aforesaid forty shillings and to the poor of the parish of Windermere in the County of Westmorland forty shillings the former to be paid either the same day of my Interment or shortly after and the latter within three months after my decease Item whereas my Kinsman Mr Thomas Braithwaite in indebted unto me by Bond the Sum of One Hundred and Sixty pounds payable with interest at four per Cent my will is that the same principall money shall continue in his hands for seven years from my decease if he thinks fit he giving such additionall Security for payment of the same with the like interest unto the Trustees of this my Will as they shall think fit Item I give unto the aforesaid Mr Greenway and Mr Border as well the aforesaid Bond as the principall Sum of One hundred and Sixty pounds thereupon due and all the benefit and advantage thereof In Trust for the use of my Grandaughter Martha Pyke and to be paid unto her at her age of One and Twenty years or day of Marriage which shall first happen and in the mean time the interest thereof shall be received by my said Trustees and paid and applyed towards the maintenance and education of her the said Martha Pyke And in case she dyes before such age or Marriage Then I give the same Legacy or Sum unto the Youngest Child of my said Daughter Sarah Pyke to be paid at his or her age of One and Twenty years or day or Marriage which shall first happen and in the mean time the interest hereof to be paid towards such Childs maintenance and in my said Daughter shall have no Child living then I will that the same Legacy or Sum and the interest thereof shall go and be paid unto my said Daughter Sarah Pyke her Executors or Administrators provided and my Will is that my said Trustees or the Survivor of them shall not be responsible for the failure of any Security whereon any of the money by virtue of this my Will shall be by them hereafter placed out at interest neither shall they or either of them be answerable for more moneys than what they or either of them shall actually receive and that it shall be lawfull for them and either of them to detain in his or their hands out of the interest or other money in his or their hands all such Cost and Charges as they shall necessarily lay out and expend in or about the execution of this Trust Item I doe appoint the said George Greenway and John Border Trustees of this my Will and give them five pounds apeice and all the rest of my goods chattles and personall estate whatsoever not hereinbefore disposed of (my debts legacys and Funerall expences being first paid or satisfied) I give unto my said Trustees George Greenway and John Border in Trust for my said Grandaughter Martha Pyke and I make the said George Greenway and John Border Executors of this my Will In Trust for the said Martha Pyke and revoke all my former Wills In Witness whereof I have hereunto sett my hand and seal the sixth day of March Anno Domini One thousand seven hundred Twenty One Tho: Dixon Signed Sealed published and Declared by the said Testator Thomas Dixon as and for his last Will and Testament in the presence of Bridget Russell Corne?
