In the name of God Amen The Nineteenth
day of August Anno Dni 1641 Annoq Regni Regis Caroli ???? Anglis &c Decimo
Septimo I Walter Chester of the Cittie of Bristoll Gent being stricken in yeers 
and being sicke & weake in body But of good & perfect mynde & memorie Thanckes
be given to Almighty God for the samedoe make & ordayne this my lastwill & Testamt
in manner & forme followinge First I Comend my self both Soule & body into the
hands of God my Maker and of Jesus Christ my onely Savior & Redeemer Trustinge
& stedfastly persuadinge myself that by & through his previous death & passion and
his mercie & meritts and not by any meritts or defecte of myne owne I shalbe made
partaker of everlastinge life & live with him for ever in his kingdom And my body I comitt
to the earth from whence if came to be buryed in the Churchyard of the parish of St
James within the said Cittie of Bristoll in xpian buriall at the discrecon of my Executrix
hereunder named And as for that worldly estate which God of his infinite mercie hath
lent mee in this life I dispose thereof as followeth Inprimis I give devise & bequeath
unto my eldest sonne William Chester & to his heires for ever the Inheritance in Fee of 
all my freehold Lands Messuages & TEnements with thappurtenances scituate lyinge
& being in Barton Regis in the County of Glouc And alsoe the Inheritance in Fee
of the Messuage or Tenement wherein I now dwell and o the Messuage or Tenement
thereunto adioyninge which were heretofore both one Messuage and Tenement scituate 
lying & being in Broadmeade within the suburbs of the said Cittie of Bristoll
Together withall backsides gardens pavements Outletts profitts Comodities & appurtenncs
whatsoever to the said Twoe Messuages or Tenements belonginge or in any wise appteyninge
Item I give devise & bequeath unot my sonne Walter Chester & to his heires for ever All
other my Landes Tenements and Tenements scituate within the said Cittie of Bristoll
& the suburbs thereof with their appurtenances which I have setled & made over to him
& his heires by way of Conveyance Item I give unto my said sonne William Chester
One of my greatest twoe silver boles And thother of the said twoe Boles I give and
bequeath unto my said sonne Walter Chester Item I give & bequeath unto my grandsonn
Walter Chester sonne of my said sonne William one of my long guilte boles Item 
I give & bequeath unto my Grandchildren Bridgett & Allexander daughters of my 
said sonne William Chester one dozen of silver spoones called Apostle spoones equally
betweene them parte & parte like Item I give & bequeath unto my Grandchildren
Thomas & Charles sonnes of my said sonne Walter Chester to each of them one
Ale Cupp of silver & guilte with letters engraven aboute them Item I give and
bequeath unto my Grandchild Anne Raynesthorpe daughter of John Raynesthorpe


Marryner five pounds in money To be payed unto her when shee shall accomplish y?
age of Seaventeene yeeres Item I give & bequeath unto my Granddaughter Marie
Holbrooke wife of Thomas Holbrooke Brewer my greate silver & gilt Salte
And if shee happen to dye Then I give & bequeath the said Salte unto her first childe
Item I give & bequeath unto my greate Grandchild Elizabeth Hicke foure little 
silver spoones and one litle wyne Cupp of silver Provided allwayes and my will &
meaninge is And I doe hereby give & bequeath the use & occupacon and the receivinge
& enioyinge of all te Rents & proffitts of all my said Landes Messuages & Tenements
herein before menconed And alsoe the use & occupacon of all & singuler the said parcells
of plate hereby before by mee given unto my welbeloved wife Elizabeth for & duringe
the terme of her naturall life And after her decease the same to be delivered to the
severall parties to whome the same are respectively given as aforesaid Item I give and
bequeath unto the parish of St James aforesaid the sume of Five pounds in money to be
payd unto the Churchwardens of the said parish Church (for the tyme being) for a sermon
to be preached in the said parish Church upon Newyeares day in every yeare for ever as
my guifte Item I give & bequeath unto Mr John Paul Clerk Minister of the said
parish Church of St James forty shillings in money to preach my funerall sermon Item 
I give unto the poore people of the said parish Church of St James Fortie shillings in
money to be given & distributed amongst them by my Executrix hereunder named on the
day of my funerall at her discrecon Item I give & bequeath unto the Master & Company
of Whitetamers within the said Cittie the sume of Forty shillings in money to accompany
my Corps to Church at my funerall Item I give unto the widdow Prince late ye wife
of Thomas Prince deceased Twenty shillings in money Item I give unto Walter
Jenings Milliner Tenn shillings in money All the rest of my goods & Chattels 
whatsoever moveable & unmoveable plate Howsholdstuffe whatsoever herein not before
by mee given & bequeathed (my debts & Legacies being payed & funerall expences
discharged) I give devise & bequeath unto my said welbeloved wife Elizabeth whome
I doe make & ordayne sole Executrix of this my last will & Testament And I doe
hereby nominate Constitute & appointe my loveing freindes James Dyer Esquire and
Hugh Browne Merchant to be Overseers of this my last will & Testament desireinge
them to bee aydeing & assistinge to my said Executrix to see this my will performed
accordinge to my true meaninge And I doe give unto each of them Twentie shillinges
in money a peece as a token And I doe hereby annihilate & Revoke all former wills &
Testaments by mee made either by writinge or word of mouth And doe declare this
which is written in these Three sheetes of paper to bee my last Will & Testament In
wittnes whereof and of other the prmisses I the said Walter Chester have hereunto sett

Signed sealed & acknowledged by the said Walter Chester to bee his last Will and
