This is the last Will
and Testament of me John Adam Carter of Portsmouth
in the County of Southampton Esquire whereby I
recommend my Soul to God and dispose of all my
worldly Estate and Effects in manner following that
is to say all and singular my Manors Lands
advowson and Rectories and all my Messuages
Cottages Fee Farm Rents and other Rents Tithes Tenements
and Heredits whatsoever and all parts and Shares
Right Title Claim and Demand of in and to all or
any Manors Lands Advowsons or Rectories Messuages
Cottages Fee Farm Rents and other Rents Tithes
Tenements and Heredits whatsoever Freehold Customary
or Copyhold situate lying and being the Counties of
Southampton and Sussex or elsewhere in the Kingdom
of Great Britain and all other my Real Estates



whatsoever and wheresoever whereof or wherein I am
or of or to which I am or may be seized or entitled
in possession Reversion Remainder or Expectancy or
whereof or wherein I have or may have any disposing
power with the appurts thereto belonging I Give and
Devise unto and amongst all my Brothers and Sisters
namely William Carter Sarah the wife of the Rev
John Garett Bussell Clerk Elizabeth Carter Susannah
Carter Anna Carter Thomas Wren Carter Catharine
Carter and Arthur Carter their Heirs and Assigns to
and for the only proper use and behoof of them my said
Brothers and Sisters their Heirs and Assigns for ever to
take as Tenants in Common and not as joint Tenants
but in case any or either of them my said Brothers
and Sisters shall happen to die under the age of 
twenty one years and leave no lawful Issue of his her
or their body or bodies living at the time of his her 
or their decease then I Give and devise the part or
Share or parts or shares of him her or them so dying
unto the Survivors or Survivor of them and their
Heirs and Assigns for ever as Tenants in common
and not as joint Tenants if more than one and if
but one then to such only surviving Brother or Sister
and his or her Heirs and Assigns for ever all and
singular my ready Money Money in the Public
Stocks or Funds Securities for Money Debts due and
owing to me and all the rest residue and remainder
of my personal Estate and Effects of every Degree and
Denomination whatsoever and wheresoever that I shall
be possessed of interested in or any ways entitled
unto at the time of my decease (after payment of all
my just Debts Funeral Expences and the Costs of proving
this my will and the Expences incidentally attending
the execution thereof) I Give and bequeath unto my
said Brother and Sisters William Carter Sarah the
Wife of the Reverend John Garratt Bussell Elizabeth
Carter Susannah Carter Anna Carter Thomas Wren 
Carter Catharine Carter and Arthur Carter to and for
their own proper use and benefit in equal parts and
proportions Share and Share alike but in case any or
either of them my said Brothers and Sisters shall
happen to die under the age of twenty one years
without leaving lawful Issue of his her or their body
or bodies then I direct that the part or share or parts
or shares of him her or them so dying without
lawful Issue shall go to the Survivors or Survivor
of them my said Brothers and Sisters in equal 
proportions share and share alike if more than one
and if but one then to such only surviving Brother
or Sister and to and for his or her own use and
benefit and I do hereby nominate and appoint Sir John
Carter of Portsmouth aforesaid Knight and Arthur

Atherley of the Town and County of Southampton 
Esquire Executors of this my will and I do hereby direct
that my said Executors shall not be answerable or
accountable for any loss that shall happen to all or
any part of my Real or personal Estate and Effects
so as such loss do not happen through their wilful
neglect or Default and that they shall reimburse
themselves respectively all such loss Costs Charges
Damages and Expences as they shall be put unto
or sustain in and about the execution of this my
will or any matter Charge or thing relating thereto
and that one of them shall not be answerable or
accountable for the other of them or for the acts
Receipts payments or Defaults of the other of them
but each of them for himself and for his own acts
Receipts payments and Defaults only and lastly I do
hereby revoke and make void all former and other
wills by me made and I declare this only to be and
contain my last will and Testament In Witness
whereof I have to this my last Will and Testament
contained in two Sheets of paper set my hand and
seal that is to say my hand to the first sheet
hereunto annexed and my hand and seal to this
second or last Sheet hereof the seventh day of April
one thousand eight hundred and four  John Adam
Carter  Signed Sealed published and declared by
the said John Adam Carter  the Testator as and for
his last Will and Testament upon the day of the
date in the presence of us who in his presence and
at his request have subscribed our names as witnesses

This Will was proved at London the
fifth day of October in the year of our Lord One
thousand eight hundred and nine before the Right
Honorable Sir John Nicholl Knight Doctor of Laws
Master Keeper or Commissary of the Prerogative
Court of Canterbury lawfully constituted by the Oath
of Arthur Atherley the surviving Executor named in 
the said Will to whom Admon was granted of all
and singular the Goods Chattels and Credits of the
deceased having been first sworn by Commission Duly
to administer
