In the name of god Amen
I John Cable of Kingstone in the County of Somrsett yeoman beinge sickly 
in bodie yet god be thanked both sound and PERfecte of memorie doe here make and 
ordaine this my last will and testament in manner and forme followinge first I give 
and bequeath my soule to Allmightie god my maker and redeemer by the merritts of 
whose better death and passion I hope to be saved and my bodie I comitt to xpian buriall
Inprimis of my temporall goodes I give to the Church of Kingstone aforesaid twoe
shillings six pence and to the poore of Kingstone twoe shillings six pence Item I give to 
the poore of Ilmister fortie shillings more I give to the poore of Crewkhorne fortie 
shillings more I give to the poore of Merriott twentie shillings more I give to the poore 
Almeshowse at Westover neere Langporte three shillings fower pence more I give to the 
poore Prisonrs of the Comon gaole of Ilchester twentie shillings more I give to the poore 
Prisonrs of the Sheriffs ward there six shillings eight pence more I give to the poore of 
Poington in Devon fortie shillings more I give to the poore Almes hose in Newton Bushell
twoe shillings six pence and to the Almeshowse called St Anne Chapple in the PARishe of 
St Sidwell in Exon five shillings more I give to the poore Almeshowse whereof the 
Poore comonly sitt bettinge att Eastegate there five shillings more I give to the poore 
Almeshowses in B??l??? there six shillings more I give to the five poore widdowes wthout
South gate dwellinge in an Almes howse there twoe shillings six pence more I give to 
the Comon gaile neere the Castle in Exon twentie shillings more I give to gayle att South-
gate there tenn shillings here followethe legacies for my daughters children Item I give to 
William Pike my daughters second sonne fieftie pounds more I give to her daughter Katherine 
Pike fieftie poundes more I give to her sonne John Pike the table boord and three formes 
in my hall the twoe ould Chaires and Cupboard in the said hall therein barr in the 
???????? there all the glasse in the windowe there the painted cloth there more I give 
him the twoe ould Chiares in the chamber within the said Hall alsoe the side boord in the 
said Chamber alsoe I give him all the glasse in the windowe of the said Chamber and the 
twoe benches in the said hall and chamber more I give him all my tallett laggs and the 
draughtrought of stone and all my ladders alsoe I give him the twoe bedsteeds with the painted 
????? in the Chamber over the hall the cheese racks and shelves there and the Coffer att 
the stayer head more I give him the five longe peeces of timber int he brewhowse alsoe 
I give him the one halfe of all the boords and plankes towards the repairinge of the 
howse more I give to Christopher Pyke my daughters fowerth sonne fortie pounds 
more I give to Samuell Pyke my daughters fifth sonne fortie poundes And my 
will and desire is that the said severall somes and porcons be continewed and lett to 
proffitt for the good and benefitt of evrie the said Children untill they sevrall attaine 
and come to the full age of twoe and twentie yeares and my will is that the said children 
and evrie of the as soone as they shall severall receave theire porcons as aforesaid 
??d give seale and deliver to my executor a true and sufficient release and discharge 
for theire said sevrall porcons And my will is that if anie one or more of the said 
Children happen to dye before they come to the age of twoe and twentie yeares That then
his her or theire porcon or porcons soe dyinge shalbe given and distributed to such
other Child or Children as shalbe hereafter borne of the bodie of my daughter if any
bee, but if it soe happen that shee have noe more Children, then my will is that the 
porcon or porcons of him her or them soe dyinge as aforesaid together with the proffitt
thereof shalbe equallie devided amongst the rest that shalbe then livinge, And my
will and desire is that what monyes shalbe hereafter lett out to proffitt for the saide 
hildren that securitie be given thereof to my executor because he is lyable by lawe to see


these foresaid porcons to be paied accordinge to the intent and true meaninge of this 
my said will Item I give to my said daughter Mary Pyke my fetherbedd wth the 
furniture thereunto belonginge which is nowe in her howse att Ham Item I give to my
twoe men servants five shillings apeece and to my Maideservant six shillings eight pence 
Item I give to Elizabeth my wife the one halfe of all my wheate and rye nowe in barne 
and Corne mowes wth out doores And alsoe all my barlie, beanes, and pease and halfe my
heme alsoe I give her all the butter and Cheese and the best swyne hogg and all y
poultrie and all the wood that is Provided for the howse the other halfe of my wheate 
Rye and hempe I give to my executor towards the paymt of legacies All the rest of my
goodes whatsoevr not before given nor bequeathed I give and bequeath unto my grandsonne
and godsonne Thomas Pyke whome I make the whole and sole executor of this my said
last will and testamt yet with this provisoe and reservacon that my said wife shall 
have the use and occupacon of all my stock of Cattell vizt Oxen, kyne, and sheepe, adn horse 
for twoe whole yeares after my decease only the woll nowe upon my sheeps backs excepted 
And that shee shall likewise have the use and occupacon of all my goodes and howsehold 
stuffe within doores and of all my poughstuffe and ymplements and tooles of husbandry 
whatsoevr soe longe as shee shall live a widdowe 
Nowe for the better confirmacon and performance hereof I doe here nominat and appointe 
my welbeloved in Christ my sonne in lawe William Pyke my Cosen George Hutchens and 
William Whitenoll both of Allowinshay to bee as well guardians of my executor untill he 
come to the age of one and twentie yeares as alsoe to bee the Ovrseers of this my said will
and testamt earnestly prayinge and desiringe them to be Carefull to see this my said 
will and the legacies therein given to be duly and trulie evrie where paied and performed 
And for theire care and paines takinge herein I give to evry of them twentie shillings 
apeece In witness this to be my true will and testamt I have hereunto sett my hand seale 
the three and twentieth daie of September in the fiefteenth yeare of the raigne of or
sovraigne lord Charles of England &c kinge defender of the faith one thousand six hundred 
thirty nyne John Cable Acknowledged and confessed on the outside in the presence of 
William Pyke and George Hutchins 
Memorandum that I the within named John Cable did write this my last will and 
testamt with my owne hand in as PERfecte memory as evr I was And did acknowledge the 
same in the prsence of William Pyke the marke of William Whitnoll George Chapple
